"Waking Against Sleep"

edit

I've reverted the good faith edit by 85.23.6.84 on 23 June 2009. The information I have is that the "Waking Against Sleep" recording is not the same as "The Herring People" on The 40th Anniversary Henry Cow Box Set. The box set recording is a live recording made in Italy on 9 July 1978. "Waking Against Sleep" is a studio recording of "The Herring People" (retitled) made at Sunrise Studios in July-August 1978 (see Gravity). Please correct me if I've got this wrong. --Bruce1eetalk 06:51, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have compared the versions with sound editing program and I'm sure they are same recording. But I'm not sure is this original research? --85.23.6.84 (talk) 10:17, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I don't have the 1991 CD reissue of Gravity so I can't compare "Waking Against Sleep" on that CD against "The Herring People" on the Henry Cow box set. But "Waking Against Sleep" is definitely a studio recording, whereas "The Herring People" is a live recording. Chris Cutler says in "The Road Volume 2" booklet in the box set, page 8:

A Studio recording of this piece ["The Herring People"] was made at Sunrise at the time of Western Culture by Henry Cow ... which appeared on the 1991 reissue of Gravity (RecDec 901) where it was called "Waking Against Sleep".

Are you sure that the "Waking Against Sleep" you have is on the 1991 reissue of Gravity? --Bruce1eetalk 06:48, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes it is from Gravity CD-issue. Maybe the studio versio was accidentally included on the live CD and Cutler did not detected this while writing the note. --85.23.6.84 (talk) 21:57, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
You could be right. Henry Cow recordings have been mixed up before (for eg. "Ottawa Song" in the box set). But because your discovery has not been published anywhere (that I know of), it is strictly speaking deemed original research and not permitted in a Wikipedia article. However, what I've done is I've added it as a footnote to "Waking Against Sleep" in the discography, stating your assertion. I hope this is ok with you. --Bruce1eetalk 08:38, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
That is ok. --85.23.6.84 (talk) 11:00, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

John Peel Session (24th April 1973)

edit

I've removed this paragraph from the article:

In 2010, a three track MP3 mini-album of the band's John Peel Session (24th April 1973) was released by EMI. The three tracks are Guider Tells of Silent Airborne Machine / Nine Funerals of the Citizen King / Bee. However, the correct titles should be Nine Funerals . . / Nirvana for Mice / Guider . . .

This discography lists only officially released Henry Cow albums and box sets, and not compilations or reissues. The "Other albums" section contains albums by other artists containing previously unreleased Henry Cow tracks. The John Peel Session 3-track mini-album contains material previously released on Vol 1 of The 40th Anniversary Henry Cow Box Set (the track recording dates and times match). --Bruce1eetalk 13:49, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
