Filmography

Just wanted to run this by the collective "you." Would it be a better idea to move the filmography to a sub-article, similar to the way major musicians (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc.) have their discographies separate from their main articles? No matter how the filmography section is treated, it will always overshadow the rest of the article because of Fonda's immense body of work. Then, maybe some of us should try expanding/creating articles for as many notable films as possible. Volatile 19:23, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

Missing Movie -I just watched a movie starring Henry Fonda, Linda Darnell and Dorothy Lamore. It was filmed in 1940 and depicts life in a 1840's traveling circus. I searched wikipedia for the title and more info on Linda Darnell but the film is not listed on any of the actors film credits. Mulasso

I reverted the changes to the second paragraph (see here:[1]). I did a quick google search for MULASSO and Fonda, and found...nothing. Also nothing at the Fonda geneaology site in the links. If someone wants to restore it, please cite your sources. Kaisershatner 13:52, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

I (again) reverted changes by 213.146.158.210 about "MULASSO." I will assume good faith, but have left a note at their talk page again asking that this editor cite sources. Really improved

It's really improved, but now, we should consider branching out from improving sections to adding some? What could we add, maybe, like previously stated, some information on his more famous films. What else could be added? -- A Link to the Past 23:26, July 27, 2005 (UTC)

I reorganized the article to make it less fractured (Marriage/Children stuck between Career articles, almost no info about movies after 1950, etc.). The article could certainly use more info about his personal life outside of film. Volatile 00:13, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

Volatile, I changed back some of your reorganization. No offense is intended. I think putting a biographical section in linear order at the beginning cuts out most of what made him interesting (his long film career and appearances). The way it was before, (In my POV), the "early life" section segued nicely into the early career, with Stewart as the link - his early life ended when he worked with Stewart, then he and Stewart moved to NYC in "early career." The section about the marriages, which I agree with you is a little fractured, breaks up the big paragraphs about his career nicely (early successes, then marriage and family, most of which occurred in the 1940s/50s with the birth of the kids and several weddings in that timeframe). It can be followed by expanded paras about his career in the later period (I agree with you this needs help). I was hoping to add more about his relationships with the family, which I think would go nicely in or around the marriage para. Upon reading those parts (Early Life / Early Career), I noticed they do flow well together; so the original layout is probably best. I changed the structure more for the sake of the miniscule Marriage/Children section being wedged between the career sections. I've noticed several actor/singer/etc. pages separate life from career, but I think the way it is now is fine. Right now, the last three sections before the filmography are especially thin. I'll expand the Late Career section later if it isn't done already, but I know very little about his personal life or his legacy. The Marriage/Children section could greatly benefit from someone who owns Fonda's autobiography or has advanced knowledge of his life outside of film. Volatile 15:11, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

I think that there also needs to either be some deletion, regarding the images, moving them, or adding text to spread them out.

Photos

Ok, I agree it was a bit cluttered, but I think that small pics of his first wife and his son added to the article. I can live without the leggy pic of Jane... Kaisershatner 15:55, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

Free use photograph

Since the article is at FAC now, we need a free-use photograph for the main image. The previous header image had uncertain copyright information, so it had to be removed, and replaced with the stamp. If anyone can find a free-use image of Fonda, please post it. Volatile 02:02, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Wow, this article is much less good without the pics. At least put the postage stamp pic back as the main photo, the Western is hardly the main way Fonda is remembered. Kaisershatner 13:39, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

I've got to ditto that. I admit some of the photographs were frivolous (Bridget Fonda's only hit movie, Jane's [hot but not relevant] legs, etc.), but we need something to break up all that text. As far as voting on FAC, I'm going to wait until I have more confidence in the article. The article's nomination seemed a little too hasty and ill-conceived. The article needs some polishing before facing that scrutiny (that's the mistake I made by nominated Cimarron (see here). Volatile 14:06, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Okay. You've made your point and it doesn't need repeating. I'm leaving it until we get some good (and free/fair use) photographs.

One possible solution: AllPosters.com [2] has a number of promotional images and film posters taken from Fonda's films. I looked under the WikiPedia copyright information, and it says promotional stills can be used under "fair use." I'd like to keep to "free-use" as much as possible, but that doesn't seem to be panning out. So, this might be the solution we're looking for. Below's a copy of the template for this copyright rule that may be used if we end up using those images.

The article doesn't mention that the character Major Major Major Major in the book Catch-22 looks like Henry Fonda.

It's in the book. No citation is needed. See the M*4's article, or the Catch-22 wiki, or the book itself. It's sort of needless nitpicking.

Italian ancestry

Fonda's very distant, and minute Italian ancestry (centuries removed) would hardly qualify him to be classified 'Italian American" by any reasonable definition. It is absurd to classify him as Italian American based on such remote ancestry.

Sizes

Can someone please convert those strange measures 'feet', 'pounds' to something understandable by the rest of the world ? centimeters , kilos ...
