Death

edit

How did he die? He drank from the Holy Grail. Emperor001 (talk) 00:40, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The grail cannot pass beyond the great seal. Same goes with immortality. If you pass the seal, immorality goes away. --Albert yusuke (talk) 01:54, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Source? I think the movie give us the idea that you have to drink from the grail once in a while, so you have to always come back to that place (and have enough lucky to no one comes before you and activacte the traps). This is stated in these sentence:
"Two of these brothers walked out of the desert one hundred and fifty years after having found the Grail and began the long journey back to France. But only one of them made it. And before dying of extreme old age, he supposedly imparted his tale to a-to a Franciscan friar, I think." (Indy)
"The cup that gives everlasting life. Hitler can have the world, but he can't take it with him. I'm going to be drinking my own health when he's gone the way of the Dodo." (Donovan)

And apparently is not "eternal life" but a considerably reduction of lifetime counter speed (or an expantion of lifespam if you want), since the last knight looked old. The grail is different from the fountain of youth contrary to what Donovan thought.

However... having in mind that those brothers were more than 12 years old and when they drank from it and lived more 150 years after that (they were outside the temple in their way to france); Henry Jones must have died in a car accident or something because it passed less than 20 years before his death. Indy lived, at least, more 55 years after the Last Crusade.

I see...so if what you're saying is true, that it only reduces the lifetime counter speed, then Henry Jones, Sr. might have just died of natural causes (since he drank it when he's already old). So stroke, or heart attack is still a possibility (higher chances too when one is older). --Albert yusuke (talk) 07:09, 26 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

New WikiProject Open!

Nationality

edit

Since Henry Jones, Sr. went to Oxford and has a British accent is he supposed to be British? This would make Indiana Jones half-British in that case. Antarctic-adventurer (talk) 04:39, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Comma in name

edit

Does anyone know if the character was created with a comma in the name (Henry Jones, Sr.)? Commas in fictional "Jr." names are allowed, and since this page was created with the comma, and if it is verifiable as the character's name the page name should reflect that. If Indiana Jones was characterized with the comma in his name, it should change the mentions at that page as well. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:52, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Checking the history I see that this was an incorrect move request] from 2016. Randy Kryn (talk) 17:35, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Randy Kryn: I have moved the article back to Henry Jones, Sr.. For some reason, Anthony Appleyard did not know how to respond to the message you left on his user talk page, probably because the link was an Easter egg link that must be visited in order to see the details. Moved. See consensus below 1) to use "Sr." as a natural disambiguator, and 2) to omit the comma, the latter in accord with the sources provided. Thanks and kudos to editors for your input; good health to all! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 13:46, 16 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Dr. Vogel (talk) 21:47, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@FMSky: This move has been performed and reverted twice now, so this can’t be uncontroversial. A formal RM would be welcome to have an actual consensus, though. -2pou (talk) 13:43, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yeah that definitely sounds like the best course of action in this case. Dr. Vogel (talk) 21:47, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • That is where the confusion comes in. WP:JR. covers living or deceased human beings, biographical, not intentionally created artistic characters. The only question here is if a source says that the authors/screenwriters specifically named the character Henry Jones, Sr. or if that name evolved from the film where he calls Indiana "Junior". Biographical details

edit

What is the source for the biographical details (nationality, date of birth, etc)? They're not mentioned in the original film, and you can't assume he's Scottish just because Sean Connery played him with a Scottish accent. (He could be Irish-American, or Russian, or even an immortal Egyptian maquerading as a Spaniard). 2A00:23C5:C384:9101:44E1:F65D:D7BC:AA54 (talk) 23:42, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
