This article could use expanding. There is a lot of good material at http://www.ph.ucla.edu/epi/snow/whitehead.html#1884. Also in the book "The Ghost Map" which gives much credit to Whitehead as an integral part of the investigation into not just the Broad street outbreak but several other London cholera epidemics of the latter 1800's.
