editNot sure if anyone is looking at this page, but it looks like a lift from an early document. The fact that Ryle was Bishop of Winchester would be considered far more important than his post as Dean of Westminster, yet it doesn't even feature in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.84.127.134 (talk) 09:41, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Herbert Edward Ryle → Herbert Ryle — Moving to common name, removing extraneous forename. Per recent edit (see history) DBD 15:09, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose. Your edit does not verify that he is commonly referred to without his middle name, but simply that a single Guardian story happens to use his shortened name. Searching Google News archive (1 vs. 2) shows a parity between the full name and shortened, and a Google Book search (1 vs. 2) indicates an order of magnitude more results for the full name (though this may be skewed by the fact that he published books under his full name, but that, in and of itself, is an indication). I searched some online newspapers. I found at the London Gazette this article using his full name, as well as this, this, this, this, this and there are many more there (someone might want to use these as sources in the article). At the same paper, I only found two using his shortened, and one of those looks like a false positive.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:43, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose per evidence above, particularly that he published under his full name. Propaniac (talk) 18:55, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
