Romanian?

I need people who claim that he was Romanian to indicate what logic they follow. He was born in Austria-Hungary, never had Romanian citizenship afaik, and left his native region it was Romanian... Dahn 07:02, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Place of Birth

Technical Information

A worthy project would be to add some actual technical information about Oberth's discoveries. He was apparently not aware of the prior work of Tsiolkovsky, Esnault-Pelterie and Goddard, but his 1923 booklet has some important new ideas in it. Hermann and Extraterrestrials

On an episode of UFO Hunters, they say that Oberth said "men from other worlds helped us" and that he was involved with some supernatural society later in life that included mediums, as well as his having served as honorary president of the German UFO society. Do you think that UFO Hunters is a credible source (It's history channel).PonileExpress (talk) 22:56, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Month of Publication

Die Rakete zu den Planetenräumen was publised in 1923, but how do we know it was in June? Astronautix.com says it was published in December. A Soviet newspaper mentiones it in October, so it came out before then. DonPMitchell (talk) 07:58, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

German / Hungarian / Austro-Hungarian / Romanian

State borders have changed enormously since Oberth was born and the issue of ethnicity is still a major issue in the region. It should be possible to use a formulation that doesn't apply anachronistic names, takes no sides and doesn't detract too much from the subject, which is Hermann Oberth, not European history. Convair

There are conflicting reports about Oberth at Convair, that he was there in 1960, he was there for 9 months in 1961, he was there for two years from 1960-1962. Was he there for sure? What did he do? The article sidebar states:

How could he be a citizen of three nations, without holding nationality?

First liquid-fueled rocket?

Hello, sorry, this is my first comment in wiki, so don't know if is correctly placed. Just a small point - Hermann Oberth wasn't the first one who launched First liquid-fueled rocket. IMHO it was Robert Goddard in 1926 - it just need to find some source. I didn't read whole article from Le monde [4] but the part I saw: he only proposed to use rocket in 1917, but he did not use it. Sorry if I made some mess, if somebody can make my point proper. Thanks, Matej (15:55, 14 June 2011 (UTC))

Citizenship and categories

I have reset the placenames, because the placename at the time of birth counts. As for citizenship, it is not clear whether or not Oberth applied for Romanian citizenship after World War I. If you have evidence, please add that. Further, I have removed the excess of categories built on various assumtions. If Oberth held Romanian citizenship for a time, some of them might be restored. -- Zz (talk) 14:21, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Ok, but then we should give a few addition and a little change to be it totally professional. Regarding the birthplace, because of his German ethnicity I leave Hermannstadt on the first place, I will add the contemporary official name, Nagyszeben in bracket's, at the same time I will add to the infobox Sibiu to "today Romania". The change: as it was introduced to many articles, the common Anglo-Saxon mistake of "Austro-Hungarian citizenship" that never existed, or adding Austrian citizenship to those persons where affiliated with Hungary before or after 1867. Just shortly - more of us explained it i.e. Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Ignác Semmelweis, Philipp Lenard, articles etc. - Austro-Hungarian citizenship never existed, somebody was Austrian or Hungarian, dual citizenship was banned and this was true for Austria-Hungary as well for Royal Hungary before as a state with a Habsburg King, etc. (check Austria-Hungary, Austrian Empire, Royal Hungary articles). He was a Hungarian citizen for sure, there is no information if he ever held Austrian citizenship.(KIENGIR (talk) 17:20, 27 April 2015 (UTC))
