Talk:Herston, Queensland

Herston Quarter

edit

The term Brisbane General Hospital Precinct is no longer used, it is the historical name referred to under the Heritage act.

The current term is Herston Health Precinct, but it keeps changing (Campus, Complex). Im currently in discussions with QLD health to confirm the correct name! But there is a move to use the word Health rather than Hospital because the site will include non-hospital buildings (research, rehabilitation, dental, accomodation, retirement living, shops etc ).

May I suggest that we change the text of this page, to be:

Herston is dominated by the Herston Health Precinct which includes the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the former Royal Children's Hospital which is being redeveloped under the title Herston Quarter. Parts of the precinct have been listed on the Queensland Heritage Register under the title of Brisbane General Hospital Precinct and Royal Brisbane Hospital Nurses' Homes.

PS. Now the page has been merged, is it possible to categorise the Herston Quarter Section of this page as Proposed buildings and structures in Australia?

Perhaps I could also make a reference to Ballymore Stadium which dominates the suburb. PS. I just checked and Queensland Government call it the Herston Health Precinct. Elliot Duff (talk) 13:36, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have edited to remove "dominated" and added the rugby union and golf venues. I also piped a link for "Herston Health Precinct". I don;t think the "Herston Quarter" is a proposed building. Each of the future hospital/medical facilities might be, and some of them will eventually by notable enough to have their own articles, but I'm not sure they have achieved that level of development yet. --Scott Davis Talk 13:55, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Scott Davis, Yes you are correct, the "Herston Quarter" is not a building, it is the name of the development site, just like Queen's Wharf, Brisbane. It will consist of half a dozen buildings. The only one of public interest will be the SRCACC - Specialist Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Care Centre. But no one like the name (too close to Shrek), so it is going out to market studies.
