Change of name
editShould be moved to Hesperocyparis macrocarpa to reflect reclassification; this page should redirect there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.169.29.254 (talk) 20:44, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
- You need to explain why you are changing the name in the text of the article. You also need to change the name of the article to the new name. Currently, there is no reference in the body to the title of the article, which is very confusing for the ordinary reader. The vast majority of refs seem to be referring to the name Cupressus macrocarpa. Surely there needs to be consensus among the experts, BEFORE the name is changed on Wikipedia. And if there is consensus, it needs to be shown in the article. Darorcilmir (talk) 17:51, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
There is consensus that Hesperocyparis is the current genus to replace Cupressus, with reference 3 added, in my edit, as the journal, Phytologia, is peer-reviewed and considered an important reputable systematic and taxonomic scientific journal. Also, Jepson Manual, for the flora of California, Second Edition, uses Hesperocyparis as the genus, which has several editors in agreement that are distinguished botanists at several universities. How do I submit an edit for the name of the Wikipedia page to be changed with replacing Cupressus with Hesperocyparis?Robert Jan van de Hoek (talk) 10:10, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
