editThe information for this entry states that the sample for Hey Mama is Today Won't Come Again by the Kay-Gees. The Kay-Gees do not have a song by that name. Instead, the song title is Today Won't Come Again but it is by Donal Leace. A comparison of the two songs can be found at http://www.whosampled.com/sample/view/309/Kanye%20West-Hey%20Mama_Donal%20Leace-Today%20Won%27t%20Come%20Again/. Hi @Kyle Peake, happy to be reviewing this GA nomination. I'll provide updates here periodically as I review the article. ––FormalDude talk 07:21, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
I will post my recommendations as to what is needed to bring the article up to standard for each section below.
- FormalDude Thanks for the review, I have addressed everything... is it time to place this on hold or pass? --K. Peake 21:54, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Lead
edit- Remove comma from first sentence.
- Not done this is the correct way for introduction of an album that a song is on --K. Peake 16:36, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- Remove "who got in contact through Rick Rubin" as undue.
- Done
Background
edit- Move the last sentence of the first paragraph to the beginning.
Composition and lyrics
edit- Change the first appearance of "Donda" to "Donda West" and clarify that it is Kanye's mother.
- Not done she is introduced in the previous section and see MOS:SAMESURNAME --K. Peake 09:45, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- The source for "West tries to force rhymes at points" does not verify that claim.
- Done added an alternative sentence --K. Peake 09:45, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Release and reception
edit- Start new paragraph after sentence two.
- Not done what's the point of having a para with nothing but the release date and a one sentence critical overview, which would not be backed up until the following para if I complied with this move? --K. Peake 09:45, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- Move the final paragraph to the beginning.
- Not done critical reception before commercial is the way I've done for all my GAs and I see no opposing guideline --K. Peake 09:45, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- No need for brackets for the "[t]he Brion redux" quote per MOS:QUOTATIONS.
- Create subsection "Commercial performance" for the final paragraph.
Live performances
edit- Consider splitting up into multiple paragraphs.
Appearances in media
edit- No comma for:
The video features archival footage, showing the Wests rapping "Hey Mama" together.
- Done while rewording so this flows smoother --K. Peake 16:36, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
Credits and personnel
edit- No changes needed.
Missing sections/content
edit- Cover versions - The song has been covered by Vitamin String Quartet and others (Rockabye Baby!, The Gold Soul All Stars).
- Not done I did look through the Google results for all of these, but none have enough coverage to meet WP:SONGCOVER. --K. Peake 21:54, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- Promotion/marketing - In order to meet criteria 3, broad in its coverage.
- Comment: this type of information is already included to a healthy extent with live performances and in parts of appearances in media, so isn't it broad enough despite not all being in the same section? --K. Peake 21:54, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Kyle Peake: I still think there should probably be a promotion/marketing section that covers when/how the song was first released, first performed, advertising, etc. ––FormalDude talk 22:02, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- Release/promotion should not all be in the same section when there's large amounts of live performances, as well as promo that classifies as media appearances (not all of those are from West himself); it is all organized within appropriate sections and there's no guideline specifically for release and promotion so I don't see any problem. --K. Peake 22:06, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
