Proposing a merger

edit

I don't know which name is common in Eingland, "chalk figure" and "hill figure" (and "Chalk figures in the United Kingdom" ) describe same subject.Tmizuk 10:25, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

comment: the merger is appropriate if and only if there are no such chalk figures elsewhere in the world. Pewtercollector 18:42, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I propose that we lose Chalk figures in the United Kingdom. My brief research shows that Hill figure is the more common term. Using Hill figures would have the additional benefit of including those figures not cut into chalk. MortimerCat 14:01, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Coords for scottish figures

edit

Given below are links to the google maps where the Mormond Horse and stag should be. However due to cloud cover someone will have to check where exactly before proper coordinates can be found. /Lokal_Profil 00:59, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Mormond Horse: [1]
  • Mormond White Stag: [2]
The other problem there is the coverage is poor in that area and I'm not geting anything really visable in GoogleEarth. The first is 57.600358, -2.06646 and the second is 57.603221, -2.027707. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 05:41, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
If those are the real coords I'd still recommend adding them to the article though. /Lokal_Profil 13:10, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Other similar things in other parts of the world

edit

Should have a link to those gigantic drawings of animals in a desert in south or central america somewhere/ 89.241.159.20 (talk) 13:17, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

They would probably come under another heading since they are not on the side of a hill, and this topic seems to be referencing the figures on the hills in England, however a section referencing similar features around the world would be good, I don't know what the South American ones are called though!Philman132 (talk) 15:22, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
They are the Nazca Lines and are linked in the see also. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 16:16, 28 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Japan has Gozan no Okuribi carved on several mountains in Kyoto. http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/193289495 Today I learned that Tibet has one ot these, I assume it's a sky burial site. http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=30.038444&lon=101.487314&zoom=18&layers=M — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.79.142.83 (talk) 10:40, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
