X-Factor
editdoes anybody know the name of that x-factor contestant who was part of the Hillsong congergation? he was #3 in the xfactor and kate's last person to go in her self-selected dreamteam.
Burn
editI came into possession of a Hillsong Ukraine album called "Burn". So I have added the album to the "Other albums from Hillsong Music" list. Later on I realized that Hillsong Ukraine had released a few more albums. Is this the right place for this info?
- If Hillsong Ukraine have released a few albums, it might be worth having a separate heading and listing them all chronologically if you know the names of the other albums. Once Hillsong London have released a couple more that should get its own heading too. Marky1981 19:32, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- I have found the Hillsong Kiev albums. There is quite a number of them. I don't know if it makes sense that the albums are listed as links to non-existing pages without the english translation or not. Only the 'Burn' album has an English name as well as the Russian. Maybe they don't need to have a link.
- I didn't realise there were very many. You are right in saying that there might not be much point linking to the albums if they are not in English. It's your call as to whether you want to list them all or not. Perhaps you could either say how many there are, or even list them but just separated by commas. Marky1981 23:33, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm pretty new at Wikipedia, and I don't know much about it yet (still figuring things out). Is the list still anywhere out there? I would like to list them as you have suggested, separated by commas, but I don't feel like searching and editing the text again. I had to change the cyrillic letters from all caps to normal text, which wasn't easy because I'm not a native russian speaker.
- Welcome to Wikipedia! It doesn't take long to get used to the syntax etc. I am not sure where the list is, the only one listed on the Hillsong site is King of Majesty. Perhaps a search on the net? Don't worry about it though, I just thought you already had the list. If you do find them, add them and then add a note here to say if any of the letters needs converting - someone may be able to help. Please note, it is customary to 'sign' talk comments with four tildes (4 x ~) :) Marky1981 21:37, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- I added the list to the Wikipedia (I think I had anyway), but now it's gone. I thought you deleted it or something. I still have the data on my computer, but it's not edited.LalalaB 22:02, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Found the official website of Hillsong Music Ukraine. It would be nice if someone who knows Russian could translate the album names into English. I can pretty much tell what it is about, because I speak another slavic language, but I don't really know Russian to tell for sure what it says.LalalaB 22:07, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Cool, well we'll leave them there and perhaps someone can help! Marky1981 22:09, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
I have added English translations to the Hillsong Kiev albums as well as the first album they ever released and the latest one. Garik 11 08:59, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
New stuff
editI have added new sections on "criticisms" and "crossover" which could be developed further. I also changed "pre-eminence" to "popularity" at the start of the history section, as the former is not verifiable and probably POV. Note that I do actually like this music! DaveDave 15:56, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
- The criticism regarding the use of the first person in songs is interesting. After thinking about it, however, I don't think it should be included in the article. This is because while many (or perhaps most) Hillsong songs do use the first person, it is not unique to Hillsongs (consider other popular modern worship songs such as Tim Hughes's Here I Am to Worship, Matt Redman's Heart of Worship, and numerous others). If we then consider the old hymns, they also commonly make use of the first person, (e.g. Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Crown Him with Many Crowns) all of which use me and I rather than we or us. I would say the songs are not due to selfishness but because they reflect the personal aspect of worship. The Bible contains these too, e.g. in the Psalms, from which many modern songs are inspired, as it is King David writing personal songs. Therefore I think this particular criticism should be removed. Marky1981 13:21, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
- I removed the criticism regarding the first person before I came to the Talk page, as it was completely non-encyclopedic (uncited, original research, and heavily POV). And in this context, the firm scriptural basis for such first person worship makes that criticism non-notable at best, complete rubbish at worst. —gorgan_almighty 18:46, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
- With respect, as the writer of the first person bit, my contribution was not original research, but a summary of criticisms I have read in a number of different places. (I accept fully that they were uncited, but then, so is a lot of stuff). I also wrote my bit in an NPOV way that simply reported other people's published concerns and placed them into context. Your dismissal of my writings with comments about a "firm scriptural basis..." is completely POV and out of order. It is not the job of an encyclopedia to promote your personal view of the Bible. The facts of the matter are that Hillsong music has drawn criticism in some quarters because of a perceived self-centred bias. Typing hillsong music self-centred into google just now gave me 143 hits - need I say more? The criticism is worth noting because of the popularity of hillsong music in many branches of the christian church. An encyclopedia article that does not reflect the fact that numerous people have expressed concerns about it is not NPOV. Just because you think the criticism isn't valid does not mean that it should not be reported. I will try to research some references and add my piece back. As previously stated, I do like the music (and disagree with the critics), but any discussion of it would be incomplete (and POV) without mentioning its detractors. Wikipedia is no more the place for my view as it is for yours. Sorry to rant. DaveDave 18:09, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- As I said on Talk:Charismatic movement...
- Criticisms must report on or quote the words of a notable person. They cannot be generalised criticisms, such as "Some people feel that...", or "It is generally thought that...".
- A summary of various views that you have heard is impossible to cite and impossible to determine accuracy or relevance. This makes it indistinguishable from original research, so much so that it can be classed as original research. Inevitably, it will also be tained with your POV. These are the reasons for which I deleted it. —gorgan_almighty 16:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
POV?
editHowever, the DVD albums show that everyone at the event is actively engaged in the worshipping as part of a church congregation as opposed to just listening as an audience.
This sounds somewhat POVish to me. Lurker 14:50, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. It is an interpretation of the source material and I've chopped it. Ashmoo 03:09, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- While I agree we should be careful not to introduce POV, I would ask how one could write the disputed sentence as NPOV? The DVD clearly shows the crowds are not just seated listening to a concert, but mostly standing, singing and obviously engaging in the worship as a church. Marky1981 09:26, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Even if it isn't POV, it is Original Research, as it is a description of a primary source. Ashmoo 05:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Albums to do list
editWhen adding new Hillsong albums, please check Category talk:Hillsong Church albums to for the 'to do list'. This was originally on my user page, but I thought it would be better to move it so others can access and modify it. Feel free to add new columns etc. Marky1981 12:59, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Criticisms
editDoes the Geoff Bullock quote really belong in the Criticisms section? My reading of the quote is that Geoff is talking about his unsuitability and difficulty in leading large groups of people. Nothing in the quote seems to criticise (or defend) Hillsong's music. Could the original contributor pls explain why they put it in? Ashmoo 03:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Having just read the article about him in the link, it doesn't actually name his criticisms of Hillsong. The original contribution is probably not strong enough. I have nothing against Hillsong but I'm surprised that this wiki is missing some of the more critical articles in the media, especially the ones last year about the Aboriginal centre. - Mat. Hillsong musicians
editHi. Please see the talk page on Hillsong musicians. Someone has been trying to reduce this to simply a list of links (see history) because it doesn't comply with the list guideline. I am trying to explain that it isn't meant to be a simple list, but a unifying article about the musicians, some of whom wouldn't qualify for their own article. Please add your comments on the talk page. Thanks Marky1981 11:03, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:AOTH lrg.jpg

"released and distributed by..."
editAs a member of Hillsong Kiev, I have strong doubts concerning the following statements:
...as well as offshoot churches, Hillsong London and Hillsong Kiev. Hillsong albums are released and distributed by Hillsong Music Australia, the resource arm of Hillsong Church.
In fact, Hillsong Kiev albums are released and distributed by the church itself here in Kiev. Can someone who knows production and distribution details of London albums clarify those facts in the article? Garik 11 08:45, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Chart positions
editSome of the Hillsong albums have seen official chart positions. I had added the ones of Hillsong United (band) to that page. But I discover that Hillsong Live albums have recently enjoyed chart success. Where could we reflect this as we have done to Hillsong United? Example: The 2012 Live album Cornerstone has the following positions: See here: AUSTRALIA #2, NZ #24, NORWAY (VG-lista) #15, NED #52. This week's VG-lista has the new album Glorious Love new entry to VG-lista Norwegian Official Albums Chart at #6. See: http://lista.vg.no/liste/topp-40-album/2 It has charted officially elsewhere: See here: AUSTRALIA #3, NZ #19, NED #21 and NORWAY #6 as I mentioned. werldwayd (talk) 06:22, 12 July 2013 (UTC) werldwayd (talk) 06:48, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
