Sleeves
editAre we sure the woman on the left isn't wearing a peplos (sleeveless) not a chiton (with sleeves)?
I doubt it! And what is the woman at peplos wearing? Personally I think all assertions as to the meaning of the ancient/medieval equivalents of "dress" "coat" and "top" tend to be over-precise and over-emphatic. "As with all aspects of medieval costume, there are many contemporary images of clothing, and many mentions of names for clothing in contemporary documents, but definitively matching the names to the styles in the images is rarely possible" as I paraphrased a source at Chaperon (headgear).
