This article isn't encyclopedic. The fact that it could be improved isn't relevent. There are only two choices here: improve the article, or remove it until someone is willing to do so. Keeping it because it might be a good article some day simply doesn't cut it. Rklawton 05:51, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

SimCopter programmer once deployed armies of digital himbos for good

>Since the internet has decided to throw us all neck-deep into the choppy waters of “himbo” discourse, our minds have been preoccupied with times when these kind, dim-witted, beautiful boys have played a role, large or small, in history. One example of this comes from a mostly-forgotten SimCity spin-off called SimCopter, which, thanks to the work of a frustrated programmer, thwarted an attempt to offer players the usual ‘90s video game sexism by replacing “bimbos” with muscly, affectionate doofuses in speedos.

>The story of how SimCopter came to include riots of blockily-rendered bodybuilders has been detailed a few times over the years, including in a retrospective video by Chris Chapman. The SimCopter “bug” was created by programmer Jacques Servin, who, in an article from Wired about these “boy ‘bimbos’” published back in ‘96, said his job on the game was to design its characters. Servin says that the artist who “used my editor to make the bodies” was “aggressively heterosexual, and made several ‘bimbos’” that would show up in-game to celebrate stuff like finishing a mission. “At a certain point, I wondered, ‘Bimbos—why not studs?’” Servin recalled.

>During development, programmer and activist Jacques Servin inserted an Easter egg that generated shirtless men in Speedo trunks ("himbos") who hug and kiss each other and appear in great numbers on certain dates, such as September 30 (Servin's birthday) and Friday the 13th. The shirtless men's nipples are rendered using the "fullbright" color palette (normally used for fog-piercing lights, such as on runways or building tops) and are visible from great distances or in the dark. The egg was caught shortly after release and removed from future copies of the game, with Servin fired for adding unauthorized content. He cited his actions as a response to the intolerable working conditions he allegedly suffered at Maxis.

>Jacques Severn is the "homosexual programmer at Maxis" who was responsible for the easter egg. The term he used for the buff dudes in speedos was "himbos" (male bimbos). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A46E:A9E5:1:5551:3308:1761:4498 (talk) 10:48, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
