Japanese name

edit

"Japanese name order is meaningless for someone who is American": but he was Japanese for at least the first 24 years of his life (or so I infer from the article); and when he's referred to in Japanese by his full name it will almost certainly be in the Japanese order. (Actually he seems to be referred to simply as ヒロ.) I'd like to find the kanji for his name, as this would help Japanese-language searches, which might throw up new material. -- Hoary (talk) 23:38, 6 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It was me that removed the name in Japanese order. I agree that it would be nice to be able to include his name in Japanese (kanji), but until we can find a reliable reference that gives his name in this fashion, I don't think it is right to assume how his name might have been written.
One reference I found on the web ([1]) gives his name as 若林康宏, but I can't find any other sources to corroborate this just yet. --DAJF (talk) 00:39, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

We're on the same wavelength then. I certainly would not want to guess the kanji for his (or anyone else's) name. If we do become certain that he was originally 若林康宏 (or something else), let's then add it via the "nihongo" template. Until then, OK, we can skip the Japanese-order roman name.

Incidentally, I'm dissatisfied with the article, which seems adulatory. This could be a faithful summary of the sources listed; I haven't checked. -- Hoary (talk) 01:24, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
