Lead

  • "... when they regained the league championship", "... winning the League championship". Is it to be "League" or "league"?

Rebuilding

  • "Liverpool's form in cup competitions hindered their performance in the League". That doesn't really make sense.

Lean spell

  • "Victory in the FA Cup meant Liverpool were entitled to play in the European Cup Winners' Cup". Were they entitled to decline to play?
  • "They were unable to successfully defend the FA Cup as they were knocked out in the third round by Chelsea." No, they were knocked out during their defence of the FA Cup.
  • "Despite failures in the cup competitions they were successful in the league." But in the previous section we have "Liverpool's form in cup competitions hindered their performance in the League". Is it to be "League" or "league"?
  • "The next few seasons were unsuccessful for Liverpool, as the club failed to match the exploits of the previous seasons". That's a bit of a non sequitor; they could well have been successful despite failing to match the exploits of previous seasons, just not as successful.
  • "... who would go on to become the captain of the club". Was Emlyn Hughes really the club captain as opposed to the team captain?
  • " An accumulation of matches due to participaion in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, FA Cup and Football League Cup meant Liverpool's league form suffered, and as a result they eventually finished the season in third place. The accumulation of games, Liverpool played a total of 59 games during the season, had no benefit, as the furthest the club progressed in any competition was the quarter-finals of the FA Cup." Lots of problems with that. And why eventually finished?
  • "The club signed Tony Hateley for a record of fee of £96,000".

Transition

  • "The young team were unable to improve upon the previous season's league position". "Team" is a singular noun.
  • "Livepool went a round further in the FA Cup". A round further than what?
  • "Despite taking the lead in extra-time after a goalless 90 minutes, Arsenal won the match 2–1". That doesn't compute. Presumably what's meant is that Liverpool took the lead in extra time, not Arsenal as it's written. And why is "extra-time" hyphenated here? It wasn't in the Rebuilding section: "Liverpool took the lead in extra time courtesy of a goal by Hunt".
  • "It was a position they were to remain all season".
  • "They won the first leg 3–0, despite losing the second leg 2–0, Liverpool won the tie 3–2 on aggregate". So they won the first leg 3–0 despite losing the second leg 2–0?
  • "The biggest change to Anfield in recent years occurred in 1973, as the old Main stand ...". So the stand was just called "Main", not "Main Stand"?
  • "Liverpool were unbeaten in their first six league match ...".
  • "In the close season ...". What's a close season?
  • "... who would become regulars in the successful team that Paisley was to built."

Sustained success

  • "Liverpool picked up their form in the second half of the season", They didn't pick up their form, their form picked up.
  • "... a run that culminated in the club dropping one point in nine matches at towards the end of the season".

Triumph and tragedy

  • "... the accumulation of people against a side perimeter wall caused it to collapse". Where else would a perimeter wall be except at the side?
Thanks for the comments, think I've addressed them all. NapHit (talk) 13:11, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
