The article gives no mention of the other ancient peoples of North Africa. After the decline of Egypt, the Phonecians and Greeks both settled numerous colonies in North Africa, and left a profound cultural heritage. The Roman and Arab conquests are also overlooked, leaving a 2000 year gap in the article!
The article still has many problems. The Egyptian people are theorized to be a mixture of the "native" population of North Africa, when the area was still fertile, and conquering nomads from the south and east. It may be more accurate to view the inhabitants of North Africa less in terms of race ("black and "white"), and more in terms of migratory population patterns. Also, the Colossus of Rhodes was located on the island of Rhodes, an island in the Mediterranean.
This article is still rather weird. What, for example, is meant by "native Africans"?. Martg76 11:47, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
The original article said "black africans" and "white africans", which I assumed was the problem with the neutral bias. I just replaced "black" or "white" with "native" to correct for any bias in the hope that someone will rewrite that section.
i also added in a bunch of stuff from the suez canal article, so that bit is at least accurateHadlock
Rewriting badly needed
IMHO, this article could still use a lot of work. The text of the article doesn't even say what countries exist in this territory in the modern world; the Islam and Ottoman sections are negligent and the modern section only really talks about the Suez canal. It's a good start (I especially like the prehistory and carthage bits) but there's a long way to go, and it's a worthwhile topic. Dvyost 13:43, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- It is good enough for wikipedia, sorry! Read3r 13:10, 28 October 2006 (UTC) Maybe, there is a problem with the title, should we move it to "The conquerors of north africa"?! Read3r 13:13, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
The history of North Africa is a very broad subject and can be covered in more detail in articles about specific regions or specific stages in history such as the article abot the Almohads, Almoravids, Morocco, etc. However, I think this article can tie the other articles together an give then a context that thy might not have otherwise.Umer Al-Amerikee 00:54, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Would anyone be able to help out with this article. It's hard enough to find references just because it's so old and forgotten. Also, need help on how to cite ancient scholars who wrote about the Psylli. Thanks in advance. Donama (talk) 01:34, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
