Expansion
Looking for any interested editors who would like to join on this effort: @Zero0000:, @Huldra:, @Oncenawhile:, @Iskandar323:, @Al Ameer son:, @JDiala:, @Wham2001:. A lede is missing, and an expansion is required at the modern period. Also I didn't find information on which were the most prominent newspapers during the mandate period, so that is lacking. Makeandtoss (talk) 22:18, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Extras would be section on role of women, anti-Zionism, Islamism and the Arab Orthodox Movement. Possibly also magazines. And relevant pictures, ideally of people reading these newspapers. Also just realized I missed the Egyptian period in Gaza, but not sure if there was press established there. Makeandtoss (talk) 22:21, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Emanuel Beska wrote a number of excellent papers and one book about the Palestinian press in the late Ottoman period. I can send you some if you email me. Zerotalk 01:03, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Zero0000: I have read quite a few of his and have them downloaded. I also have access to most materials. Do you have the name of Beska's book? Makeandtoss (talk) 08:29, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Makeandtoss: The book is "From Ambivalence to Hostility: the Arabic Newspaper Filastin and Zionism, 1911-1914". The papers I have on my computer are "The Origins of the term “Palestinian” (“Filasṭīnī”) in late Ottoman Palestine, 1898–1914", "Khalil al-Sakakini and Zionism before WWI", "“The Disgrace of the Twentieth Century”: The Beilis Affair in Filastin Newspaper", "Anti-Zionist Journalistic Works of Najīb Al-Khūrī Nassār in the Newspaper Al-Karmal in 1914", "Responses of Prominent Arabs Towards Zionist Aspirations and Colonization Prior to 1908", "Polemikos ‘Isa al-‘Isa and Printing Class: Too Much Borrowing?", "Arabic Translations of Writings on Zionism Published in Palestine Before the First World War", "Isa al-Isa's Defence Speech at the May 1914 Trial in Jaffa", "Shukri al-Asali, an Extraordinary Anti-Zionist Activist", "The Lands of As-Sirr Affair in 1914", "Yusuf al-Isa: A Founder of Modern Journalism in Palestine". Even those which are not about the press usually have a lot of information about the press because it is his major source. Zerotalk 09:18, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Zero0000: I have read a few of them but these are more newspaper/writer-specific rather than a meta analysis of the press; is my impression right? Also I was thinking of creating a bottom of the page template vs a side page template/series like this one on the history of Palestinian journalism which would also include the writers and the newspapers. So far I am leaning towards the bottom of page template as a series might be over the top; what do you think? Makeandtoss (talk) 09:23, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- {Re|Makeandtoss}} A template would be nice but you should wait until there are more articles as templates don't look good if there are too few items on them. Zerotalk 10:22, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Zero0000: The template would be included on each newspaper article and their publishers and editors, and they are quite many, so this shouldn't be a problem. I will start with the template later. Makeandtoss (talk) 10:59, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Zero0000: Template:History of Palestinian journalism looks hideous and empty; any improvements come to mind? Makeandtoss (talk) 21:16, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

@Makeandtoss: I don't think it looks so bad and it will improve as more articles appear. Already it is missing one article: this one. Zerotalk 01:12, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Zero0000: The title of the template is linked to it. Should it be elsewhere? Makeandtoss (talk) 10:30, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think it is necessary for the title to link to an article. I expected to see a link within the template rather than the title, but I know it isn't always done that way. Zerotalk 11:35, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- It actually makes sense, I have added it to the bottom. Makeandtoss (talk) 22:02, 6 April 2024 (UTC)

- To editor Makeandtoss: Al Fajr (Jerusalem) and Palestinian Press Agency should be in the template? Zerotalk 09:07, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Added. Makeandtoss (talk) 09:13, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
