Title
editI think this should be under History of Poland during the Early Modern era. After all, this is a history article, it doesn't describe society, economy, geography or other topics... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 04:40, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Merge
editI fail to see how this is different from History of Poland (1569–1795). I think a merge is needed. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 04:49, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think the reverse, History of Poland (1569–1795) is not really needed, but it's too much detail to be merged into the summary article History of Poland in the Early Modern era. By all means this article needs a little more summary details. The material from History of Poland (1569–1795) should be put into either History of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1569–1648), History of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1648–1764) or History of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1764–1795) Ajh1492 (talk) 21:29, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Articles should be merged because there are too many overlapping Commonwealth history articles. History of Poland (1569–1795) cannot yet be merged into the three comprehensive Commonwealth history articles that I've been writing, because History of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1764–1795) is nowhere close to be complete. Once I'm finished with that work the merge can be done and the 1569-1795 article eliminated. At that time also History of Poland in the Early Modern era I think will need to be somewhat expanded, because not everybody wants to read three long detailed articles and a chronological, complete summary article will be needed. Some of the material/organization from History of Poland (1569–1795) might go there as well. Orczar (talk) 04:17, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- There is no impending rush to chop this article up, so let's . . .
- (1) Wait until Orczar is finished working on History of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1569–1648), History of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1648–1764) and History of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1764–1795)
- (2) Split History of Poland (1569–1795) and merge it into the three time period articles
- (3) Once the Split merge is done, refresh the summary article History of Poland in the Early Modern era
If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. Ajh1492 (talk) 12:41, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- I looked at those articles again. I think Piotrus' original idea of merging this article with History of Poland (1569–1795) is correct. It will be about 40K and can serve as the Early Modern summary article. It cannot be merged with the three articles I've been working on, because, like many older articles, it is unreferenced. I ran into into this problem before, working with the History of Poland during the Piast dynasty and History of Poland during the Jagiellon dynasty articles. Their predecessors were mostly unreferenced. An unreferenced article is to a considerable degree useless. Someone provides various, often very specific claims, without telling the reader where he or she had gotten the information from, the problem Wikipedia has been trying to fix for a long time. Merging an unreferenced article with a referenced article means simply degrading the referenced article. I could try to fix the article resulting form the merge of the two shorter articles, by providing references for what I can reference and removing/replacing some of the unreferenced material (I normally keep what "seems to be" correct or at least sensible, even if unreferenced; otherwise an entire article like History of Poland (1569–1795) would have to be ditched :).), to upgrade the resulting Commonwealth/Early Modern Era article. This article is also needed as a shorter version of the Commonwealth's history. Orczar (talk) 15:39, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ageeed. One suggestion: any unreferenced claims would be better of being moved to the talk than just deleted. Perhaps somebody else can find refs for them. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 17:33, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Merging articles
editI'm not trying to remove anything, but merging this article with History of Poland (1569–1795) as has been recommended for a long time. The first introductory paragraph I intend to keep (ending with the words "early modern European period"). The rest I go through sentence by sentence, and if the material is not already present in History of Poland (1569–1795), I put it in there. After the process is completed, the content of History of Poland (1569–1795), supplemented by the content of this article, will be brought here, under this title History of Poland in the Early Modern era (1569–1795), to sit in the History of Poland template. The article History of Poland (1569–1795) will be eliminated in this merge process to avoid duplication with other Commonwealth history articles. Orczar (talk) 17:03, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- OK, sorry that I misunderstood what's going on. Rjensen (talk) 18:51, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
The text of this article has been merged with History of Poland in the Early Modern era (1569–1795) and the result placed here. Orczar (talk) 17:32, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
Request move: History of Poland (1989-present) to Third Polish Republic and so on
editSee:
Similarily, articles History of Poland (1918-1939), History of Poland (1939-1945), History of Poland (1945-1989) etc. should be moved into articles named: Poland in the Interwar period, Poland in WW2, Poland in the Cold War etc. or perhaps one big "Poland in the 20th century" article should be created along with one for the Third Polish Republic, describing the current regime, how it formed etc. See: France in the 20th century. History of Poland in the early modern period (1569-1795) should be moved to First Polish Republic.
