editI have read in a high school textbook that after the discreditation of the Free State, Leopolde handed Congo over to the Belgian government that did spend some effort at reform and building infrastructure. Any thoughts on that?
Rename
editI'd suggest renaming Congo Free State and Belgian Congo, as they suggest articles about a former states, when in fact they are just history of a current state article. Consider also an example of History of Poland (1945–1989) vs. People's Republic of Poland, or History of Poland (1569-1795) vs. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 21:27, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Changes in Congolese society
editThis section needs more references and specific examples. The statements in it are repetitive and seem to be written in a style that is heavily dependent on marxist/post-colonialist assumptions. I am not saying that the content is wrong (I don't know one way or the other) but the way it is conveyed should be in more neutral/ encyclopedia appropriate language.
D.R.C foreign policy
editAny thoughts on the best way to research and analyze the congo's foreign policy and how it developed throughout history????
History of the country's official name
editWhat was this country's official name when it achieved independence? Was it "Democratic Republic of Congo" or was it "Republic of Congo"?
The Wikipedia article Heads of state of the Democratic Republic of the Congo indicates that the country began as "Republic of Congo", became "Democratic Republic of Congo" in 1966, became "Zaire" in 1971, and reverted to "Democratic Republic of Congo" in 1997.
So, in 1960, at the moment of independence, what was the country called? Were there two countries called "Republic of Congo"? Poldy Bloom 18:04, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Template icon
editI really like the 3-in-1 flag icon that has been created for the template of this series of articles; very creative and original! However, I still feel that an outline map would be even better, since those are only three of the flags that have been associated with this entity. //Big Adamsky 17:16, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

editIs this article same as History of the Republic of the Congo or different? And if they are the same, should they be merged?

Democratic Republic of the Congo
editHow can an article on the history of the DRC not mention when it first adopted that name? It's been years since someone raised the question on this talk page, too! --76.69.46.228 (talk) 23:59, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
