The word in the middle of the song says 'cookie', not 'cocaine', I think, which I took to mean a joke, 'cookie' being what Cookie Monster from Sesame Street said. That show was on the air at that time, and John Lennon may have seen it in America.

Was Lennon farmiliar with Sesame Street? It was an American show that was in its infancy when this song was recorded, and Lennon was semi-estranged from his son Julian at this time.
