When Dorothy Parker saw a publicity-stunt photo of three elephants dressed up as bride, groom, and clergyman, she reportedly said "I give it six weeks", or something like that... AnonMoos (talk) 13:44, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

How long is "of a longer duration?" 67.99.60.162 (talk) 16:53, 15 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

They seem to go all the way down to nine years for "still together" and four years for "got divorced." Should Mel Gibson be moved to the "longer duration then divorce" section?--T. Anthony (talk) 11:08, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Neutrality issue

edit

I've tried to improve this article, adding more sourcing using news articles that use the term, but it might help if I knew more about what the neutrality concerns are or were with it. Was it too pro-Hollywood? Too anti? Should being pro or con not be in it at all? Have I made it better with regards to neutrality? Or worse?--T. Anthony (talk) 06:34, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I see the neutrality deal was put by an anonymous user who never edited anything else. Still it's remained since then so I guess I'm wondering if it has neutrality issues and if so ideas on what should be done there.--T. Anthony (talk) 06:36, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
The POV tag is stale, and there was never any discussion to begin with, so it can be removed.
It's interesting that the article lists counterexamples, of long lasting marriages, but doesn't list the obvious short-term marriages that are more the focus of the article. Perhaps some marriages involving celebrities that lasted less than a year would be appropriate?   Will Beback  talk  06:57, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I admit I initially added that because the List of people with the longest marriages did not include any marriages under 80 years long, but there were some notably long marriages I wanted to see on some list and so did another poster. I thought of removing it, but then on Googling "Hollywood Marriage" I did come upon articles that seemed to make it relevant. However if no one objects I might add a "very short marriage" list too.--T. Anthony (talk) 10:41, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Actually, now that I look I see that many of the famously short Hollywood marriages lasted, at least on paper, over five years. Yet they're still known as exemplars and should be noted here. It's hard not to feel like a part of "Enquiro-pedia" when writing about Taylor's or the Gabors' marriages.   Will Beback  talk  10:52, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
For now I'll compromise and it expand it to "under three years." You're right though that under one-year was difficult.--T. Anthony (talk) 12:26, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
The article is looking good. The two lists provide a nice balance.   Will Beback  talk  05:33, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Belated thanks. Although I'm now worried I may have overdone it and made the lists too long.--T. Anthony (talk) 11:00, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
There are plenty of examples in both directions. It's not necessary to be exhaustive, but within reason more is better. I expect that both lists may continue to increase naturally as more marriages pass the 50-year mark and more quick divorces are required. Thanks again for the good work.   Will Beback  talk  11:16, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Scope too wide?

edit

Isn't this article starting to turn into a bit of a laundry list and just listing any short lived marriage of a "celebrity". I've not even heard of some of these people. It's stretching the idea of "hollywood" a bit far. I would suggest we cut the list and just have a couple of illustrative examples. Otherwise I question the value of the article. Contaldo80 (talk) 08:35, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I will cut the list back. Sorry if I got over-invested in it.--T. Anthony (talk) 06:07, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay I cut out a good deal, but I think you likely wanted something bolder than what I did. Something that will make the list not dominate. I'll hesitantly test a change that, I hope, will do a bit of that.--T. Anthony (talk) 07:10, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I may not keep these cuts if anyone complains, but both lists are definitely "tighter." Taken together they still may be larger than the non-list portion, likely are, but each one individually may not be larger than the non-list part. I'm a little worried this change may make it too "recentist", but I'm kind of into old stuff.--T. Anthony (talk) 10:31, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
