File:BSicon lDHR.svg Nominated for speedy Deletion

edit
An image used in this article, File:BSicon lDHR.svg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Other speedy deletions
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Holmfirth Branch Line. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.

The paragraph on "extensions" appears to be based on a mis-reading of Lane's book. The only proposal to extend the Holmfirth Branch line was the original 1847 one to Holmbridge which L&YR allowed to lapse in 1852.

The scheme to tunnel under Holme Moss appears to be a reference to the Leeds, Huddersfield, Sheffield & South Staffordshire Direct Railway that was first announced in the autumn of 1845 before collapsing in early 1846. However, that scheme was not an extension of the Holmfirth Branch line but rather an entirely separate line that was described as joining the proposed Huddersfield-Penistone line "at or near a certain place called Smithy Place, in the Township of Honly [i.e. Honley], in the Parish of Almondbury".

Along with the Great Northern & Southern Direct Railway scheme (also of 1845 but rejected by Parliament), which intended to construct a new line connecting Huddersfield to Derby via Holmfirth, it seems likely that the decision to construct the Holmfirth Branch at the same time as the Huddersfield-Penistone line was a tactical one to block any rival companies from gaining a foothold in the Upper Holme Valley.
