Fair use rationale for Image:Homeyrax5.jpg

edit

Image:Homeyrax5.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:10, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced biographical material

edit

Hi, this article has problems at the moment with promotional/over-enthusiastic descriptive sections that are not referenced. Anoush22, you seem to be adding this material. I cannot tell whether it is true but not sourced, or not true, and since you've inserted it, I've reverted it, and you've reverted me, we are now verging on an edit-war which will get us both blocked. I have removed the comment about Homeyra's father because this is potentially libelous, which means we can only say it if there is a source to support it. I totally sympathise with the desire to say good things about a great musician, but Wikipedia isn't the place to praise those whom we admire; we can only summarise the praise they receive from independent critics, journalists. I appreciate that you added a source when re-inserting the text, but the source is a YouTube clip, which when followed, produces the message that this clip is unavailable, "This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated.". This is a very bad sign. YouTube isn't a particularly good source anyway, but something from a terminated account is particularly unsuitable. If the source was a television program, the original might be good, but if the account was terminated for copyright evasion, you'd need to trace the original in order to use it to support statements here. I would request, most strongly, that you remove the over-promotional language that I reverted, or find sources that back it up. I also welcome input from other editors. Hello dear friend, I am an Iranian and Homeyra is also an Iranian. Because of Homeyra's artistic position in Iran, I felt that I had write the correct information about her in the English Wikipedia. Unfortunately, with the amount of time I spent on this article, you did not have the opportunity to prepare references and delete texts quickly. I paid attention to what you mentioned and used it in the corrections. Homeyra's father is not alive, but the case mentioned by his daughter Homeyra is a reference to all of his interviews. Regarding the fact that I used YouTube for reference because there was no choice. After the Iranian revolution, many artists before the revolution, especially women singers, were ignored and many artists, including Homeyra, were forced to leave their homeland. Therefore, the sources of information about them are limited because they are not present in their country and as mentioned, they are usually ignored. The people of Iran have many memories of their artistic myths, I tried to base their content on Homeyra's interviews. Thank you if you have any problems with the grammar of the article. I wish the best for you Anoush22 (talk) 20:44, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Anoush22, I really appreciate that you are trying to make sure that the information in the article is accurate, however, interviews with the subject on YouTube might not be considered a reliable source, especially when considering the gravity of what is being claimed. Wikipedia should not be written in the subjects voice (there are exceptions) or our own personal voice (what we think) but in Wiki-voice summarizing what reliable sources say about the subject. If you can find reliable sources (they do not have to be English) where an independent source confirms the claims you desire to add to the article then there may be cause to have it included. I hope this helps and I appreciate you both coming here to discuss the topic. --ARoseWolf 21:13, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
We need verifiable sources for the information included in the last paragraph under Personal Life. Without that the entire section may fail BLP guidelines. --ARoseWolf 21:20, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I corrected the references again, I hope it will be accepted by all my friends, considering the time I have left. Make sure the information provided is presented with the utmost care and the concerns of all friends are taken into account. References other than YouTube, which are limited for the reasons I mentioned earlier, were also used. Thank you Anoush22 (talk) 01:07, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Anoush22 for doing your best to find sources. This is a big step in a very good direction. I do appreciate that there is an insoluble problem in dealing with people who are remembered more than they are written about. Unfortunately Wikipedia belongs very much to a written tradition, very much like encyclopaedias in book format, and hasn't got a way to handle folk-memory. Interviews are a difficulty because Wikipedia tends not to trust what people say about themselves, but I personally prefer not to treat all interviews the same. I have no patience with interviews initiated by a celebrity, where the celebrity asks a site to interview them; this is just self-promotion. But when a reputable news organisation or TV station decides independently to ask someone for an interview, it has to imply the person is important enough to need interviewing; and although there will still be suspicion that they are talking about themselves (it's not independent) it does carry a little more weight because the TV station believed it enough to show it. But be aware, other editors may be much more strict about this! The other thing to be aware of is that Wikipedia articles tend to be written in a very unemotional tone. Anoush22, you write in a very warm style, obviously moved by Homeyra's life and work; this is understandable. You may find that other editors remove some of the more positive things you've said, and tone it down a bit. The reasons are explained in Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Words_to_watch. Thank you for your ongoing efforts and communication. Elemimele (talk) 06:53, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear friend, thank you for the good information you shared. In the references, the second case refers to a link that Homeira has placed next to other greats of Iranian music, and they also express their opinions about Homeira. I think that the artist himself can provide more complete information about personal issues in life. . As I said before, I tried to use written sources that are limited due to the events after the Iranian revolution. In addition, Homeira is less visible for personal reasons. This case is also mentioned in the content by mentioning the source. Regarding the writing method of the article, as much as possible, what is there has been tried to be completely impartial and based on the existing reality. I hope the much time I spent on this article has been accepted. Thanks Anoush22 (talk) 09:19, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Anoush22, I understand completely where you are coming with in regards to written sources. I run into this all the time with American Indian/Native American articles. Most of what is passed down is done so through Native story tellers and it is almost solely a traditional oral history or record of events. Wikipedia hasn't been able to really find a way to rectify it's encyclopedic nature with all the oral history that's out there. It may never fully be able to due to the reality of what it is, a written encyclopedia. @Elemimele provides a lot of great insight above that will help you going forward. Undoubtedly there will be edits and removals of some of the more positive tone within the article just to back it down to a more neutral stance. It does not nor will it ever take away from the beautiful person that Homeyra is, I too am moved by her LifeSong and the struggles she has faced. It is a definite inspiration. I echo the sentiments above in thanking you for putting in the effort to find the best sources you could. --ARoseWolf 15:52, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comments. I did my best to express the content based on what it is and not to include personal views and feelings. Thanks again for the valuable comments of all my friends Anoush22 (talk) 12:48, 12 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Golden age"

edit

"She is a veteran celebrity of golden age for Iranian music."

This links to the section "Middle Ages" in the article on Iranian music. So let me get this straight, this lady sings music from the 10th or 11th century? --217.239.3.8 (talk) 12:44, 8 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
