so why does everyone complain about the GM one being canned...when this one seems to have died in the same fashion .

GM made and leased over twice as many EVs as Honda did. Also, "The EV Plus was made to keep up with General Motors' new EV1". But yes, I'm assuming they went out in the same fashion. This is a very good point. Honda just followed GM's lead in destroying their electric vehicles but that is no excuse. Honda seem to have maintained their 'squeaky clean' image when in fact they destroyed and discontinued their EV Plus for no good reason, and to the detriment of the environment since electric vehicles cause far less damage to the environment (yes, there's a lot of pollutants from generating electricity but it's nothing compared to internal combustion engines). And today, as if to add insult to injury, they market the most fuel INEFFICIENT hybrid in the world: the Accord Hybrid, which burns more petrol than the average 4 cylinder sedan, and one 1 gallon less per hundred kilometers than the standard Accord! It's ridiculous. I love driving Hondas and they've done lots of great things for the industry but their history of electric and hybrid vehicles is terrible; basically as bad as GM's. --DreamsReign 07:07, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Comments by the above shows how naive and uninformed some battery EV advocates really are. Prototype and pre-production vehicles are, have always been and will continue to be crushed (and recycled) to protect the public from extreme liability damages and lawsuits. Unlike the RAV-IV EV by Toyota, the Honda EV PLUS (like the EV-1) were "purpose built" electric cars based on unique platforms with NO internal combustion counterpart so there were NO spare parts available to keep them in safe operation. So comments above like "destroyed for no good reason" simply are not true. Also it was NOT to the detriment to the environment as stated, since it was HONDA that pioneered gasoline Low Emission Vehicles, Ultra Low Emission vehicles and Super Ultra Low Emission vehicles, all 1st to be certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) with each opening the door for other automakers to duplicate which they did. So millions of tons of emissions were (and continue to be)reduced as a result, much faster than a few thousand electric cars would have done since millions of LEV/ULEV/SULEV vehicles have now been sold in Califonria and elsewhere. (CA DMV records) Simply put, Los Angeles residents are breathing cleaner air today because of Honda leadership and engineering. Citing the Accord V-6 Hybrid as a fuel inefficient hybrid shows just how low some will stoop to foster their battery electric car cause. The Accord Hybrid (I still drive one) has V-6 performane with 4-cylinder fuel economy. It's that simple. Not everyone is content driving underpowered 4-cylinder cars on steep mountain roads with their family on board. Honda continues to introduce fuel efficient NON hybrids, fuel efficient Hybrids and since the EV PLUS days, has maintained continuous development of electric drive systems, components, batteries and the all-electric FCX Clarity fuel cell car. To foster otherwise reeks of some untrue documentary movie conspiracy.
