In the article, it has been mentioned that this museum gains its name from the Hoods Tower, an observation tower named after Vice-Admiral Sir Samuel Hood. But there are no any RS given for that. However the current museum doesn't bear the name Hoods Tower Museum but the Naval museum. The tower standing there (Hoods tower) has not given its name to the museum and is just treated as a special monument. Therefore I suggest that the name of this article should be changed to Naval museum, Trincomalee.--L Manju (talk) 08:17, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
The official description about the museum can be found on this page published by the Sri Lanka Navy. I believe that is a valid RS. It titled the museum as Naval museum. Pls see the picture at right side also. I think we shouldn't consider about the name on Google maps as it is not considered a RS.--L Manju (talk) 05:26, 27 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
So what will be the most common name for this museum. I searched in English language sources but couldn't find the name Hoods Tower Museum. If we couldn't find this name in reliable English language sources then what shall we do? Don't we need to move this title in to its original name. --L Manju (talk) 10:55, 11 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@L Manju: - I'm surprised by this. Here are the sources I found:
It is really hard to find the common name. The both names have been given in various sources but many of them are mirror sites of Wikipedia and not Reliable sources. Thank you for finding some news sites referencing the name of the museum as Hoods tower. It is seemed that these article writers have just put their preferred name neglecting the original. Pls see Daily Mirror article. It has put the title as the Hoods Tower Museum but begins like this The naval museum of the Sri Lankan navy is located at Ostenburg in the peninsular within the naval dockyard. Again says The museum is named after Samuel Hood, who was the Commander of the East Indies Station. There is also an observation tower called Hoods Tower. This statement clearly shows that the article writer was unaware about the real name of the museum. Also the Sunday leader writer has mentioned that he had included some parts to his article from Wikipedia. Other two are the same just mentioning the name Hoods tower museum. However all of these sites say that this is the naval museum of Sri Lanka Navy located in Trincomalee. So what would be the most common name? I also found following sources, refer the museum name as Naval museum in Trincomalee.
Sunday Times quote = His enthusiasm towards tracing the history of naval guns and cannons have encouraged his subordinates to follow suit and paved the way for the establishment of the Naval Museum at the Trincomalee Naval Dockyard.
News First, quote = Thereafter, the President paid a visit to the Navy Museum via a Dvora vessel and inspected vessels and weapons which were seized by the Navy from the LTTE.
Ceylon Today quote = Information courtesy from Naval Museum and Naval Dockyards Trincomalee.
Sunday Observer, quote = There is a naval museum situated on an elevated rock formation where famous King Parakramabahu (1123-1186) had rallied. Today, the Navy museum showcases old machines, guns, sea mines and artifacts, mainly from the colonial era, in good condition.
