Fantastic
editGreat article! Thank you. Andy Mabbett 14:13, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I don't have a clue where it was located though - I'll need to go checking some old maps. - Erebus555 14:19, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- And thanks from me too! The bridges are very photogenic. Pearsons Canal Companion mentions two foundries. Will check. Oosoom Talk to me 14:36, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

(help) gives two locations for Horseley Iron Works:
near crossing of GWR Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton railway line and BCN Main Line just north of factory Junction, Tipton.(misread symbol, should be on Toll End Communication Canal) - original works where roving bridges, Galton Bridge and Engine Arm Aqueduct were made in sections (page 21)- They moved in 1865 to a site on the, now defunct, Dixon's Branch, off the New Main Line (Island Line), near the South Staffordshire railway line (page 27). Will consult OS maps to see if I can find grid ref using Pearson's maps. Oosoom Talk to me 14:52, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

- I have found a location just southeast of Tipton in an area (unsurprisingly!) called Horseley (52°31′21″N 2°02′34″W / 52.5226°N 2.0428°W) though I'm unsure if this is the exact location. Historical maps of the area have turned up nothing. - Erebus555 15:08, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- According to my interpretation of the maps in Pearson's Guide the original location is 52°32′02″N 2°03′06″W / 52.5338°N 2.0517°W on the Toll End Communication Canal (now a housing estste - Brookfield Way). They moved to 52°31′47″N 2°02′38″W / 52.5296°N 2.0438°W on the Dixon's Branch Canal (now a housing estste - St Helens Avenue). Both canals now gone! Oosoom Talk to me 20:12, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Good work! So I wasn't too far off then! - Erebus555 20:16, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Name
editI have always seen it written in books with Iron and Works as two words, as shown in their own casting here Image:Horseley Iron Works name on bridge at Smethwick Junction.jpg. Did the firm use the form Ironworks? I know that in all things canal there are two names for every canal or junction, and two ways of spelling each! :) Oosoom Talk to me 15:16, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- I was having the same problem when deciding what to name the article. I decided upon ironworks after seeing this noted in a trade directory with the word. Though there are other sources as Iron Works as well. So I am pretty sure it is ironworks. - Erebus555 15:28, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
