I have removed the hot mirror on my canon 5D to allow the full light spectrum into the camera.I can take a photo under normal light with surprisingly good fucus results, however; taking indirect photo's via a mirror of an x-ray image off a phospher screen, looses focus.Same housing but different light exposure.Natural light photographs we but x-ray in a pitch dark environment is alway's out of focus even with the plan of focus unchanged. Why does one show up in focus yet the other not? --Genlock 13:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- I know from using an infrared-converted camera that different wavelengths of light focus to slightly different points, although you can't see this happening through the viewfinder because the viewfinder is transmitting visible light. The camera's optical system isn't calibrated to focus infrared onto the sensor, and so you have to apply a focus offset; I surmise that the same applies to whatever wavelengths you are trying to record. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 18:06, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- You probably want to use Sony SLT camera or NEX body for that purpose. It displays the picture from the sensor - regardless of wavelenghts registered - has "focus peaking" which allows quick, precise focusing. So you'd essentially see what you are focusing at, even if it'd be impossible with naked eye. Similar thing can be done with any camera offering live view, although it'd be more tedious (as you'd need to zoom-in part of the picture without really knowing what's going on around). Cool light bulb - "New light bulbs"?
editIf this is a technology in "new light bulbs", are they sold anywhere? Or is it just "a new light bulb technology" as yet unused? Gsnerd (talk) 02:05, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Material for hot mirror
editWhat are known material for hot mirrors, and is the same principle used in car window film to prevent heat accumulation to the cabin? Does anti UV film actually reflect infrared? YogiHalim (talk) 15:36, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
