editAbout the name, it should be consistent with the article's title. If you want Hou Hsiao-hsien the article should be moved and all the redirects changed. There are numerous conflicting conventions on transliterated Chinese names dealing with hyphens, name order, and capitalization of family names, and all possible combinations of these. As far as I know, wikipedia doesn't really prefer any, as long as family names are not capitalized. Ajshm 11:50, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Chinese vs. Taiwanese
editThe category "Chinese film directors" is supposed to be for "mainland" directors. Since there's already a Taiwanese film directors cat. (which Hou is in), I've removed the category for "Chinese film director".
- The Wikipedia policy did not specifically note that the category of "Chinese film directors" can only refers to mainland Chinese directors (and exclude Taiwanese film directors). Since he is a mainlander according to Taiwanese politics and he was born in China (unlike Ang Lee), that is a perfectly reasonable label. --67.2.149.153 06:35, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
BIRTH
editI´ve added "People´s" to "Republic of China" because as many people know RoC redirects to Taiwan and not mainland China. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.0.55.6 (talk) 18:45, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
