Named after the magician?
editWhere did the name come from? The article could reference whether or not it is named after the famous magician Houdini. Canuckle 19:44, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Houdinisoftware.jpg
editImage:Houdinisoftware.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
i dont think you need to worry about fair use, this entire article was obviously created by the company,a huge reference to this software has also mysteriously appeared on the wikipedia article about procedural generation —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.42.159.196 (talk) 17:34, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
If the article was created by the company, it would likely mention every single film that the software has been used in (dozens), instead of the four currently listed.24.205.186.196 (talk) 06:04, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
I'm deleting line #2, about it "being preferred"
editThe second line of this article, reads like this: "It is often preferred over competing packages, such as Maya or XSI, for pure visual effects tasks, as opposed to character animation". I'm deleting this line. It's just advertising, meaningless, and unnecessary. 203.166.255.9 23:53, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Nonetheless, it *is* the preferred package for high-end VFX animation. In order to 'cite' this, you'd have to cite almost every issue of Cinefex printed in the last 20 years.24.205.186.196 (talk) 05:57, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
I think the removal of this mention is a huge shame. It was a perfectly true statement, and remains true to this day. It should not be considered advertising to impart the choices of an industry. 88.128.80.36 (talk) 18:25, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Malkazoid
Contradictory sentence
edit"Like Maya, Houdini is an open-environment and uses the popular Tcl/Tk scripting language and toolkit (as opposed to the proprietary MEL used in Maya)". Don't you think this is a bit contradictory? --192.167.206.241 02:43, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the references to Maya in this sentence. 99.231.142.105 (talk) 13:49, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Platform
editWhat operating system platforms does it run on? The article probably needs some sort of a software Infobox to list these things.--124.170.231.221 (talk) 05:40, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Windows 7 and later, OSX 10.8 and later, and 13 different Linux distributions are supported.24.205.186.196 (talk) 05:55, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
Disputed information.
editThe article claims:
"These operators exist in the context called 'CHOPs' for which Side Effects won a Technical Achievement Academy Award in 2002."
IMDB directly contradicts this information saying the award went to camera mechanics in 2002. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.181.120.80 (talk) 22:57, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
SESI recieved the Sci-Tech Academy Award in 2012, not 2002. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.205.186.196 (talk) 05:52, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
