Edit Request
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has officially changed its name to HMH Education Company. I am affiliated with the company therefore I am simply making this request. Searches for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt should still arrive on this article, however it should be served as HMH Education Company.
Evidence of this change can be found: HMH Press Release: https://www.hmhco.com/about-us/press-releases/hmh-unveils-bold-new-brand-reflecting-commitment-to-advancing-growth-for-every-student

The result of the move request was: not moved. Consensus to wait for more sources for the new name to be more common per WP:NAMECHANGES. – robertsky (talk) 04:29, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt → HMH Education Company – Company has changed its name; see above for COI editor's request. I am opening this discussion on their behalf. Rusalkii (talk) 22:07, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Their website seems to confuse the new name. The heading/logo shows just "HMH" while the registered name is shown at the bottom. Thus, it's unclear what the company expects to be known as. If they are marketing themselves as "HMH" alone, wouldn't that be the name we would change to? Also, since this is a very recent change, it seems that WP:COMMONNAME is a factor, especially for such a widely known, long-term brand. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! - Wait: The press release is clear that what they now call themselves is "HMH", not "HMH Education Company". The closest we could get to that would be HMH (publisher), but in any case I suggest we wait to find out how WP:Independent sources refer to them in the future, per WP:NAMECHANGES. Preferably we would find independent sources that refer to them in some context other than describing their declaration about changing their name and without also giving an alternative name as an explanation. In the meantime, we should create redirects at those two links. — BarrelProof (talk) 23:26, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

- Comment: Fast Company and Education Week reported on the rebrand, and both identify the new name as simply "HMH" [1] [2]. A rename to "HMH (publisher)" may be suitable. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 23:58, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Eventually, but we really can't see how this is shaking out across the board this soon. Thus the 'Wait'. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 00:11, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- That's reasonable. And rereading Education Week, I notice a good reason for waiting. An interviewee describes HMH as "an education company". Waiting may provide a source base that more clearly identifies what HMH is, and based on that we can accurately decide between possibilities like HMH (publisher) or HMH (company).
