@Davidstewartharvey: you added a ref with this name, but looks like you forgot to define it. Could you fill in that source? Thanks. -- Fyrael (talk) 19:13, 19 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Page Preview

edit

The preview for the house of fraser page when hovering over the link in a different article appears to have been the subject of vandalism and probably needs updating, but I don't have a clue how to do that. 2A00:23C7:9605:2101:D994:C36:CCBB:BE00 (talk) 17:54, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Former department stores in Cumbernauld and Salisbury

edit

The House of Fraser 'Directors' Report and Statement of Accounts for the period ended January 1976' list of 'Retail Outlets' includes branches in Cumbernauld (Arnotts) and Salisbury (Blooms). There are also 3 Arnotts stores listed in Glasgow (aswell as Dalys, Frasers and McLaren) at this date. AndrewSE19 (talk) 00:21, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have added cumbernauld and salisbury blooms back in. Cumbernauld is also recalled on a facebook page about Cumbernauld shopping centre (it cant be used as its users recollection and as chat shows they are arguing over the name of the chinese!). Blooms found, reference on HoF archive in pictures section. Arnotts is quite hard, as cannot find any reference link to this. The only ref is what you have read the HoF director report. They were probably converted from the other stores listed, but we need proof of which ones were.Davidstewartharvey (talk) 05:52, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks David.
It is hard to pin down the Arnotts (and Bairds!) stores.
If I recall correctly from what I have read, one of the Arnotts in Glasgow (apart from the first Jamaica Street store) was in the Sauchiehall Street Shopping Centre but I have no idea as yet about the third store. AndrewSE19 (talk) 12:42, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
The 3rd Arnotts is 'Drumchapel'. AndrewSE19 (talk) 20:56, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

House of Fraser Lakeside confirmed to be closing in Jan 2024 spokesman for Frasers Group told the paper: “It is with regret that we announce House of Fraser Lakeside will be closing in January 2024. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication. 2A00:23C8:918D:BB01:1855:8478:35FA:1575 (talk) 03:38, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Is a separate article required for Frasers?

edit

Frasers group announced that they would be rebranding all House of Frasers under Frasers, so do we need this fork? Davidstewartharvey (talk) 15:55, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Barkers Kingston

edit

@andrewse19 Hi. You recently added a former branch of Barkers, Kingston upon Thames to the list of former branches. I don't think was ever actually a department store. The evidence on the HOF archive says it was a former branch of Zeeta & Co. Zeeta was a chain of bakery and grocery store purchased by Barkers which was sold after HOF purchased John Barker & Co. There is no mention of it on the HOF page for John Barker & Co. I did find an antique barometer sold as John Barker & Co, Kingston but upon looking at the actual pictures of the article it was a typo in the catalogue as it clearly stated Kensington. I know Zeeta had branches across the south east, as Southend had a Zeeta bakery in the 1970s in the old Dixon department store. I have not seen any other mentions of a branch in Kingston. Hi David,
The Barkers store in Kingston at least sold furniture, beds and pillows and carpets. These are featured in an advert for the store in 1960 (https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/BL/0003899/19600616/011/0011?browse=False).
I had thought the store closed in 1964 but I have just now found the branch amongst a list of House of Fraser stores in 1965 (https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/BL/0000566/19650425/052/0011?browse=False). AndrewSE19 (talk) 15:30, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
The store is mentioned in the House of Fraser archive, under John Barker & Co Ltd, amongst documents listed is FRAS 1519, Kingston branch general ledger AndrewSE19 (talk) 15:34, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

John Anstiss

edit

I can't find any mention, anywhere, of a John Anstiss store in Portsmouth. The only mention of Portsmouth is on the House of Fraser Archive site but I think if this was a store it may have closed before 1975.

I have found that John Anstiss was a department store in Swindon which became a vehicle for a new drapery combine through a flotation in 1920 and that 'John Anstiss' and 'John Anstee' [sic] group mentioned in various articles all stemming from the same misspelling in 'Fine Silks and Oak Counters' are one and the same.

I can find nothing on a Portsmouth connection to John Anstiss. If anyone has any information on John Anstiss and Portsmouth it would be a great help. Thanks AndrewSE19 (talk) 01:21, 10 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@User:AndrewSE19 You have removed St Albans from the list of former branches. I cannot see why, as the HOF archive has minutes and ledgers upto 1976 which is a after Army & Navy was purchased by HOF. Davidstewartharvey (talk) 05:48, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

The Greens store closed in 1969 so this was likely a dormant company.
I also removed Rochester as Leonards closed in January 1967. AndrewSE19 (talk) 10:06, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@AndrewSE19If it close in 69 you need to amend the Army & Navy page too, with your reference to when it closed. I found the reference to Rochester store closing under Chiesmans and have amended with such. Davidstewartharvey (talk) 11:12, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thankyou. I have amended Army & Navy with the closing date of Greens.
I will go through my recent amendments to 'Former branches' and add references. AndrewSE19 (talk) 17:24, 12 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
