Pronunciation
editCan someone add the proper pronunciation of Flournoy's first name? I'm not sure whether it's pronounced like the city in Texas or the street in New York (HEW-ston or HOW-ston). -Rrius (talk) 22:49, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- I have no direct evidence and it's common for ordinary people to mispronounce the names of prominent figures, but when I was in California during his general election campaign for State Controller (autumn 1966) and all of his post-Assembly career, I never heard his first name pronounced by newscasters, etc., as anything but "Hew-stun" (as in the Texas city). I read the afternoon news for the Berkeley college radio station during that 1966 campaign (most celebrated for Ronald Reagan's election, although Flournoy's name did appear from time to time) and was never guided to a differrent pronunciation by other staff or the UPI Radio news teletype printout. "How-stun" is a pronunciation that seems rare for anything other than the street and district in Manhattan. But of course it would be better if someone has a harder, more Reliable Source.—— Shakescene (talk) 01:09, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
