Article says Mechanic used "...mistruths to try to dissuade the reporter...", but article omits very important fact: Mechanic asked the reporter that his confession be treated as off-the-record. Yet she refused to honor his request. Mechanic requested this of her before he withdrew from the race and lied about his illness.
