editDoes anybody have sources for Howth Head originally being an island? Either historical or geological would be acceptable. Autarch 18:26, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- I doubt it. It was connected in a map of 1728. ClemMcGann (talk) 01:03, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
- The tombolo might explain it being an island in historical times, though the Ptolemy depiction should be taken with a grain of salt - IIRC, he portrayed Scotland as being at 90 degrees to its actual position. I'll check to see if Reading the Irish Landscape mentions this possibility.Autarch (talk) 13:40, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
- As an aside, would this count as a reference - although it only shows the front page, it does mention it as a :::former island and the tombolo linking it to the mainland.Autarch (talk) 21:50, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

18th November 2005?
edit"Such an occasion was on the morning of 18th November 2005"
Is there any WP benefit in listing a context-less date like this? The high visibility isn't confirmed in documented evidence or photos, and it appears to be unrelated to any other events on that day. Thus, the value of the info is virtually nil. JXM 15:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
- Indeed - zapped. Snalwibma 16:13, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

editThe whole topic of the Special Amenity Area Order is missing, so in addition to the recently added points, this point needs to be added and cited.SeoR (talk) 13:35, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
- In fact in reviewing the last few edits "by divers hands," I realise that this article needs a serious work-over, which I will try to take on. So much more can be added on history, mythology, landforms and watercourses, etc.SeoR (talk) 12:40, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- You could also add something on the associated Special Protection Areas and the Natural Heritage Area, on the beaches, key gardens (Howth Castle, Earlscliffe, Lion's Head, at least), and lighthouses. The peninsula is such a rich matter that this should be an outstanding article. Perhaps some decent photographs too? Thanks! 185.68.145.229 (talk) 06:36, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
Sentence in top paragraph not clear
editThe sentence in the top para "Most of Howth Head is occupied by the Hill of Howth, though there are other regions, such as the tombolo at Sutton, extensive beaches on the northern shores, and small ones in other parts" is in my opinion unclear = I can understand neither its syntax nor its content.
- Please, somebody, provide a clarification! -- jw (talk) 18:44, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
