Discrepancy between map and description
editThe text reads "parts of the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, and Guanajuato". The map shows the Huasteca to only include parts of Veracruz, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí and perhaps Puebla. The region certainly extends farther inland than shown. On the other hand I never heard of any corner of Guanajuato belonging to the Huasteca. 2001:4CA0:4403:0:14E0:6EDB:E1E6:3867 (talk) 14:22, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

La Huasteca → Huasteca – Although both Huasteca and La Huasteca are used in English publications, it appears more often as Huasteca (without the Spanish definite article La). Here are several examples I found showing English use of Huasteca:
- an academic book: The Huasteca: Culture, History, and Interregional Exchange (2015)
- an academic journal article: "The Huasteca Rain Forest: An Environmental History" (2011)
- a museum's article about its collection: "5. Archaeology of the Huasteca: The Ekholm Collection"
- a travel article in The Globe and Mail newspaper (2017)
- a culture news article "Huapango: The Sound of the Huasteca" on the MexicoNews Network website (2015)
By comparison, I found one clear example of English use of La Huasteca:
- a travel article in Time magazine: "Visit the Jungles of La Huasteca" (2009)
I also found examples of writing that mixes La Huasteca and Huasteca on the same page:
- a cultural performance group website: Mexican Dance Company
- a travel article on the Explorando México website: "La Huasteca Potosina in Mexico"
Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names) gives more advice on such cases, but generally prefers the name that is more commonly used, which would be Huasteca. - Oppose The Huasteca is used yes, but not just Huasteca. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:40, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support per WP:CONCISE and for WP:CONSISTENCY with other Spanish (etc.) terms and phrases in English Wikipedia. WP:THE applies at least in principle, except in cases where style guides tell us that a non-English definite article is de rigeur for the case in question (as for The Hague when referred to in English by its Dutch name Den Haag, and for El Niño in reference to the weather pattern). For example, the French language agency's article is at Académie française not "La Académie française", and its Spanish equivalent is at Royal Spanish Academy with Real Academia Española as a WP:BOLDSYN in the lead, neither with a definite article attached, though one would be used in running text in either language ("according to the Royal Spanish Academy", "según la Real Academia Española"). — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 11:28, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom and per SMcCandlish. If Haustica alone can be found in use in English, then the definite article can be disposed of in an English encyclopedia. bd2412 T 21:16, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
