Sources

edit

The article's list of sources is composed almost exclusively of WP:SELFPUBLISHed bare links, of which several exhibit WP:LINKROT, each of which is a tertiary source that either clearly includes information from other sources but does not name them or that clearly includes information from other sources and names them, but does not cite them in detail. They all seam like lists of names and dates that only convey the most basic consecration information. The section is, in my opinion, just a WP:LINKFARM. There are a few published books, such as Independent Bishops (which I added to the article), which list ordinations and consecrations they should be used instead of these websites.

I also changed the http://www.manastir-lepavina.org/vijest_en.php?id=3956 link to its cited source: http://vatopaidi.wordpress.com/2009/09/12/these-truths-we-hold-part-vi/ which is another blog that is still a tertiary source that clearly includes information from other sources but does not name them. --BoBoMisiu (talk) 02:48, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Works not found in WorldCat

edit

Several difficult to find works were removed in this edit by BoBoMisiu. Diakonias asked whether BoBoMisiu,

considered retaining the original list of works, but noting that many of them don't appear in the cat., and identifying those ones accordingly? Wouldn't this approach have been better, and more informative to readers? Other readers may be very interested to know (as I was) that HGdeWN wrote about the individuals listed. Also, his works may contain information about these individuals that is quite difficult to source elsewhere.

These are the list items which were removed:

  • Glastonbury Confession, 1952
  • In the Shadow of Utrecht, 1954 – about Arnold Harris Mathew
  • Varied Reflections, 1954
  • What Though the Spring Breezes, 1954 – about Antionio Francis Xavier Alvarez (Mar Paul Athanasius)
  • A Voyage into the Orient, 1954 – about Ulric Vernon Herford (Mar Jacobus)
  • The Man From Antioch, 1958 – about Jules Ferrette
  • A Twig on the Tree of Life, 1960 – about the OCOC
  • Blind Lanes and Alleys, 1960 – about the Non-Jurors
  • A Chapter of Secret History, 1961 – about the Order of Corporate Reunion
  • Glastonbury Confession, 2nd edition, 1960
  • An Orthodox Catechism, 1960

I responded on User talk:BoBoMisiu:

How would you WP:VERIFY that they actually exist as published works if you cannot physically find them. His works that can be found on WorldCat are reproductions of typewritten booklets and most likely WP:SELFPUBLISHed. Of course "his works may contain information about these individuals that is quite difficult to source elsewhere" but if you cannot physically find them you cannot access his writing.

I believe they are WP:NOTRELIABLE sources to include in a list works because there is no standard evidence, such as a bibliographic entry in WorldCat, that they were even published, moreover the guideline states that similar works "are not suitable sources for contentious claims about others." --BoBoMisiu (talk) 22:56, 30 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Apostolic Succession Minutae

edit

@OmegySock: - why do you think that the "List of apostolic successions received by Newman" is relevant encyclopedic content. "A sequence of succession derived from Russian Orthodox Church Sergius of Finland through Henry Joseph Kleefisch to Odo Acheson Barry (Mar Columba) to Newman.", as an example, is about a chain of three unnotable people; there is no encyclopedic value. In fact, significantly more minutae and trivia need to be removed from the article. 75.162.124.147 (talk) 14:49, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@75.162.124.147: - you blanked an entire trivia section (6k bytes) OmegySock (talk) 14:51, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
