All rounder?

edit

Isn't he a bowling all rounder? I thought that a batting average of 20 at the start of the 20th century would be worth about 30 in this day and age. Back in this day, Trumper was the best and he averaged 38. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:06, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

That would probably be a better description of him, especially towards the latter part of his career. By 1899, his batting was described thusly, "[Trumble] played so consistently well as to make it clear that if he had not been a bowler he would have been a great batsman" When captain, he promoted himself to open the batting! Bowling was his real strength, however and the batting was secondary. -- Mattinbgn\talk 05:21, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Still a little more to do on his personality and captaincy yet and I still need to rewrite the lead. -- Mattinbgn\talk 05:36, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've been through the article, but apart from the punctuation here and there I found almost nothing that I thought needed changing. It's a very thorough and well referenced piece, and the well chosen quotations that are included help give a good picture of the man. The introduction is perhaps a little on the long side. Maybe specifying his height could be omitted as it's in both the infobox and the body of the article later on. JH (talk page) 18:48, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much taking the time to improve the article. I think you are right about the height in the intro; I can't seem to make fit smoothly there. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 20:47, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's fair enough to describe Trumble as "medium pace", but I think that the link that's just been madc to the "medium pace" article may confuse people, as that article (perhaps contentiously) says that medium pace may be considered as a sub-category of fast bowling as opposed to spin. And Trumble was clearly a spin bowler. I would suggest either unlinking the term or else editing the "medium pace" article to say that most medium-pacers make use of the seam like faster bowlers but a few bowl spin. Reading the linked article, you are correct. I think I will de-link and reword. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 09:43, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
