In the paragraph about the late Chavez' political influences, the text states that he was "also influenced by Cuban Communist revolutionaries Fidel Castro and Che Guevara." I don't doubt that Castro and Guevara influenced Chavez in some respects, but Ernesto "Che" Guevara was an Argentine, not a Cuban. Of course, he is best known for his participation in the Cuban revolution, but he was born a citizen of Argentina. I mention this because the label "Cuban Communist" seems to carry some heavy connotations, and maybe it's better not to paint someone with that brush if it doesn't factually apply. Thank you. 169.156.29.208 (talk) 18:59, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

For the following paragraph I'd suggest a slight rewording:
"Due to the death of Chávez, Vice President Nicolás Maduro took over the presidential powers and duties for the remainder of Chávez's abbreviated term until presidential elections were held. Venezuela's constitution specifies that the speaker of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, should assume the interim presidency if a president cannot be sworn in. Maduro remained in power as president until being deposed in 2026."
I think as written, if I read that a dictator has been deposed, I would assume it was by the citizens/military of that country. It would avoid confusion and aid clarity to change to "deposed by the US in 2026". ~2025-34354-47 (talk) 21:56, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Though some sections are reasonably factual, others read more like an anti-Chavez diatribe, and rely heavily on ideological sources, particularly conservative and right-wing sources such as the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, and especially the Heritage Foundation - an organisation whose raison d'etre is to promote right-wing ideology and attack non-capitalist economics and left-wing politics. Wikipedia and its editors should be particularly vigilant about this at the moment, given recent events, and given the history of US propaganda and coup attempts against Chavez.[1] Propose an audit of references and removal of uncited information. I was thinking about changing the image of the main infobox, but when I went to edit, I saw that you need to talk here, so I knew to go here, first time I saw that I didn't even want to go here. That photo is not very photographic and not as important as the official portrait which is the one I want to change it to, the 2000 one, importantness is bigger that stuff that are important but not that important as the official portraits UnitedStatesEditor (talk) 02:10, 25 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The official photograph is not in the public domain so cannot be used even if it is our preference. All images are required to comply with Wikipedia's copyright policy. TEMPO156 (talk) 20:42, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
