Solid article. All that's really needed is a better intro. Jdorje 21:52, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, well, with all the high-quality articles we're getting now, this one is pretty lacking by comparison. But it might be too old to find good info. — jdorje (talk) 20:01, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I added more info and upped this to B-Class. Storm05 17:12, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ehh, could you give it a good copyedit first? I dropped it to start temporarily, but it shouldn't take much to bring it back up. Hurricanehink (talk) 23:13, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
You know what, close enough. Just be sure to copyedit it. Hurricanehink (talk) 17:42, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

GA on hold

edit

This article will be put on hold (for 7 days) until these minor adjustments can be made :

1. Well written? Pass
2. Factually accurate? Pass
3. Broad in coverage? Pass
4. Neutral point of view? Pass
5. Article stability? Pass
6. Images? Pass

Additional comments :

  • Is it possible to have a damage figure according to 1957, if possible. It would be more accurate for that time and would be better for the article.
  • 'Hurricane Audrey left $1 billion dollars to deposit where? sorry for being sarcastic. ;)

Lincher 20:52, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Minor changes made. Inflation calculator was used to get the 1957 figure. CrazyC83 21:02, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for such an addition, it gives a more accurate example of that day's amounts. Lincher 01:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tornado outbreak

edit

Here's a website describing the tornadoes from Audrey in Alabama (in a list of June tornadoes). It has some good stats that should be added. Hurricanehink (talk) 23:37, 20 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

GA Sweeps Review: Pass

edit

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I'm specifically going over all of the "Meteorology and atmospheric sciences" articles. I believe the article currently meets the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. I have made several minor corrections throughout the article. Altogether the article is well-written and is still in great shape after its passing in 2006. Continue to improve the article making sure all new information is properly sourced and neutral. It would be beneficial to go through the article and update all of the access dates of the inline citations and fix any dead links. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article history to reflect this review. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 07:33, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reference upgrade

edit

A few of the references were dead, and others were not from primary sources. The references have now been "upgraded" and filled out with information which would be needed in a GAN passage nowadays. Thegreatdr (talk) 22:27, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Clarify tag added

edit

In a paragraph about earliest category 4/5 occurrence in the basin, there is a line that states that 2nd place goes to Dennis, but that the record was "rebroken" nine days later. That can't be right. Did the author mean that both Dennis and Emily were other category 4/5 systems which formed before August 1? I'm not sure the Emily line even needs to be there. Thoughts? Thegreatdr (talk) 03:18, 19 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Maybe remove the record section? Audrey only has the record for earliest C4 hurricane and the earliest US major hurricane landfall, both bordering trivial IMO. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:25, 19 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Damages

edit

This article lists 147 million as the total damage amount for Audrey, however based on the 1996 edition of The Deadliest, Costliest, and Most Intense United States Tropical Cyclones list i have a damage amount of 150 million. Can we find the discrepency and deal with it please? Also note that if i am reading the Canada section correctly we have to increase the death toll by 15. GA Delisting

edit

After some off-wiki discussion with other WP:WPTC members, I am delisting this article from GA status. It was originally promoted in 2006 when GA standards were considerably lower. A cursory review of this article shows glaring gaps in coverage, with no impact in the hardest-hit state (Louisiana) even present in the body of the article. The amount of effort necessary to bring this up to snuff is beyond the scope of a GAR, thus we've agreed to demote the article so other users are aware of the lacking quality. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 17:39, 13 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Is this ready for GAN?

edit

@TheAustinMan: - is this article ready for GAN? It's technically part of the 1957 AHS good topic, so this article is all that's missing for it to remain a good topic. If you don't have the time or interest to take care of the GA review, please let me know. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:02, 8 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello TAM! I will be reviewing this article tonight--12george1 (talk) 03:40, 17 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • "and Cameron, Louisiana later that day," - Remember to add a comma after state names if there's a city and state mentioned. So "and Cameron, Louisiana, later that day," would be correct. There are other instances of this in the article
  • "The resultant flooding killed then people." - I think you mean 10 people
  • Check for instances of overlinking. With just a quick glance, I'm seeing Caribbean Sea wikilinked twice in the first paragraph of the MH
  • "Despite the lowered intensity, Audrey remains tied with 2010's Hurricane Alex as being the most intense Atlantic hurricane in June by pressure and with 1966's Hurricane Alma as having the highest winds of any June hurricane in the Atlantic." - Got a source for that other than BT?
  • "The death toll from Audrey was over 500, with the cost of damage estimated between $150–200 million." - But the infobox says at least 431. Considering the source was likely published not too long after the storm (it's dated June 1957), maybe say something like "The Weather Bureau initially estimated that the death toll from Audrey was over 500..."
  • "since the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane, which killed approximately 2,800" - The source cited says 2,500
  • "and the other classified as F-0 in New Orleans.[57][12][58]" - Switch that around so reference 12 is first. There are a few other instances where a set of multiple refs are not in numerical order
  • "the name was retired and will never be used again as a name for a tropical cyclone." - I think you specify that this pertains to Atlantic TCs by changing the ending to "for an Atlantic tropical cyclone" or something like that, as I'm seeing that Audrey was used at least once in the SWIO and in the AUS after this hurricane
  • For reference 56, I'm seeing this. "National Weather Service Forecast Ofifce Lake Charles, Louisiana. "NOWData – NOAA Online Weather Data". National Weather Service Forecast Ofifce Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lake Charles, Louisiana: National Weather Service. Retrieved June 26, 2018." First of all, office is misspelled twice. Second, you're basically saying NWS Lake Charles three times. Maybe delete the one in the author= parameter?
  • The url for reference 78 ("Hurricane Damage to Rockefeller Refuge") is a deadlink

Good work on the effort to bring this former GA back to Good Article status. It is nearly back to GA, with only minor problems standing in the way.--12george1 (talk) 03:40, 17 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I've taken care of all of these for TAM, with the exception of the best track source. However, I think that is sufficient as is. Thanks for the review! 🌧❄ϟ TropicalAnalystwx13 (talk · contributions) 03:37, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@12george1: Big thanks to TropicalAnalystwx13 for taking care of these amid peculiar disruptions. As for the statement about Audrey's record intensity, I wasn't able to find anything other than HURDAT for that. Alex's pressure was revised downward in post-season analysis and Audrey's winds were adjusted down in HURDAT reanalysis, so its current standing seems to have flown under the radar. For that reason, most non-updated sources obsoletely claim that Audrey stands alone for June pressures and winds in the Atlantic. —TheAustinMan(TalkEdits) 14:17, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
