Reason to not move Hurricane Hanna (2008) to Hurricane Hanna
editIt's premature to move Hurricane Hanna (2008) here. Unless the name is retired due to high damage, or the storm becomes a major hurricane, it's likely that 2014 or 2022 will have another storm of this name, and somewhat likely that the Hanna in those years will be as intense or destructive as this one. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 18:28, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Hurricane Hanna (2008) → Hurricane Hanna – WP: PRIMARYTOPIC. It killed over 500 people, and I greatly critize the WMO for not retiring it. It is likely what people will want when they look it up. 2020's was costlier, doing $875 million in damage, but that only killed 5 people. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 19:25, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Hanna 2020 received a high amount of coverage and attention. Hanna 2008 is not the primary topic. Removing the year would make things more confusing.--CyclonicallyDeranged (talk) 20:01, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose I don't think 2008's Hannah is what first comes to mind for most English speakers at this point, given the extent of media coverage. TornadoLGS (talk) 20:25, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose move. The fact 2020's was costlier is a sign that 2008's probably isn't a long-term primary topic. And it certainly isn't the current primary topic. O.N.R. (talk) 23:22, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Hanna 2020. SMB99thx my edits! 23:30, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Comment Hanna 2020 only killed 5 people, this killed ≥537. Thanks. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 23:57, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- I know the cyclone killed 500 something. A year and a half later, another disaster killed approx 250,000. Make that 500 times worse. Thank you.--CyclonicallyDeranged (talk) 06:39, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose 2020 did more damage. 2008 Hanna weirdly not retired by WMO, but since it isn't, it should retain the year. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 00:33, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Does anyone have the WMO's email address so I can email them about this? Destroyeraa? --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 01:32, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- It isn't the WMO's fault that the name wasn't retired as it probably wasn't nominated to the Hurricane Committee like Gordon 1994.Jason Rees (talk) 01:42, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- 12 years later, the WMO won’t retire the name Hanna. If they do, they retire Hanna as Hanna 2020. Also, you can’t just email the WMO to retire the name. There’s a long process and a country needs to nominate the name for retirement. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 02:45, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- I believe Haiti did actually nominate the name to be retired. However, I believe the WMO declined it. They said numerous times it’s Haiti’s fault for the big loss of life there, and was a self created disaster. Between 1979 and 2004, Haiti cut down most of there forests.
