Deletion discussion
editI created the article so I am biased I accept. My rational for creating the article is that as the leader of a major council (and Capital City) he is noteworthy. He is the 5th leader of Cardiff Council and two of his predecessors have similar articles - neither had previously or since achieved notable office so articles exist soley because they were coucnil leaders.
I created the article as I'm planning on creating a 2022 Cardiff Council election article shortly which will reference him.
I live in Cardiff, am not a member of the Labour party and don't plan to vote for Labour next year, but feel he and his office are noteworthy of biographical article in the same way that the following are noteworthy due to their work as a council leader:
Jan Wilson, Julie Dore, Phélim Mac Cafferty, Trevor Jones and Bill Egerton
Happy to discuss but if this is deleted then the seven others I have mentioned (plus many many more) should also be deleted which would be a backwards step IMO. Kalamikid (talk) 09:53, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- I've created several articles about council leaders in the past and most of them have been deleted at Articles for Deletion. There#'s a general consensus that people don't pass WP:GNG soley due to be elected to lead a local council. Obviously councillors that have been written about at length in newspapers, for whatever reason, may be notable. But routine mentions/comments/reporting of elections etc. don't count towards passing WP:GNG. I'm not aware that Huw Thomas has been particularly high profile during the few years he's been leader (though maybe I've missed something). Russell Goodway, in comparison, was a highly controversion figure who gained national attention. Sionk (talk) 16:21, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
