Removal of consoles, sources doesn't mention they are hybrid consoles

edit

Up until now, besides Nintendo Switch, we have Shield Portable, Razer Edge, Shield Tablet and SMACH Z included and listed in the article. The paragraphs for Shield Portable and Razer Edge has sources; while the paragraph for SMACH Z is unreferenced. I removed the consoles (other than Switch) from the article because the sources included there doesn't mention they are hybrid consoles. Handheld consoles with native TV output are not considered hybrids, per responses to a question I brought up recently, so they should not be included. – // Hounder4 // 16:44, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merge discussion

edit

There has been a discussion over at the WikiProject talk page about what to do with this article. There was some consensus for the article to be merged, but seeing as this has since been undone, it seems logical to invite regular editors of this article to the discussion.

The concerns I've brought up over there are that "hybrid video game console" isn't so much a "thing" as that it's just a popular description of the Nintendo Switch. I don't believe the word has ever been applied to any other console. However, by creating this article, we are in effect making this a thing. I'm worried about WP:Citogenesis occurring because we are saying that this is a distinct subject from a regular video game console. I also don't believe that the topic is notable, as there are no reliable sources discussing the topic of a "hybrid console" specifically: all of our sources discuss the Switch as a hybrid console. I think redirecting this page to Video game console and writing two or three lines on the idea there is a good idea. We can always reinstate this article if journalists continue to use the word in the future. Who knows what other console manufacturers may do. ~Mable (chat) 10:11, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Agreed with Mable. It may very well become "a thing" in the future, but for now, it's only used to describe the Switch, so it should be redirected.--IDVtalk 10:33, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Agreed with everything stated. Ozdarka (talk) 10:52, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I redirected the article, seeing as there seems to be consensus to do so. This action can always be undone if new sources pop up. Who knows. ~Mable (chat) 17:49, 3 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
