Why county is included

edit

(Copied from my user talk): Ok, here is the reason. That is the way the census has them all listed. Township, County, State, not Township, State. This also stops confusions since there are several townships with the same name. Also, this is the way other Wikiprojects such as Ohio have set up all their townships. Since I am the one who started the entire stubbing of all townships, they are the ones I modeled them after. Now, if you want to go around, and change 1,400 articles in Illinois, and then another 1,000 or so in Ohio and many other states, it is going to be a daunting task. But, as I have said, township names are named exactly after the United States Census Bureau lists them. If you have more questions, let me know, but I think Hyde Park Township, Cook County, Illinois is exactly the way it should be since it is exactly how the other 1,444 townships are in the state. GA Review

edit

This article meets the current Good Article criteria, and will be listed. It is well written, reasonably complete from a historical perspective (though a little more information about past government & mayors/leaders under township status would be good to add), and well referenced.

There is a minor issue with the two map images; they don't seem to be showing anything productive. The larger image in the infobox just tells me that the township is roughly in the city of Chicago, and the smaller image in the upper left has numbers on it with regions within Chicago, but there's nothing telling me which one of the numbers corresponds to Hyde Park Township. Plus, it would be good to move this smaller image (or remove it completely), as being placed in the upper left-hand corner puts a very narrow channel for the intro text between the image and the infobox -- this is acceptable at resolutions larger than 1024x768, but it looks very awkward at 800x600, and just downright poor at 640x480.

Other than these minor image issues, the article meets the GA criteria. Cheers! Dr. Cash 03:46, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The addition of the numbers in parentheses do help to clarify the location within the city of Chicago. Thanks. Dr. Cash 17:59, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Current Significance of Boundaries

edit

I've taken the liberty of removing the statement that "traditionalists still view the boundary as important." It is both POV and (in my opinion, as one who has lived a good part of my life in Hyde Park) manifestly untrue. I've left in the information about the Historical Society using the old boundaries for its scholarship, even though I am not sure that this is at all noteworthy. I suspect the use of the larger boundaries has more to do with a desire for inclusiveness than any feeling that the old boundary has any present-day importance. --Sjsilverman (talk) 18:03, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
