Usage of word in Canada

The hydroelectricity page specifically states, "In parts of Canada (the provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador) hydroelectricity is used so extensively that the word "hydro" is often used to refer to any electricity delivered by a power utility." Please do not undo this edit. Or if you feel so compelled, then find a source, shouldn't be too hard. I simply google searched 'word hydro canada' and was reassured. Describing such usage is not the purpose of disambiguation pages. Disambiguation pages help readers find article that might otherwise have the same title. At a minimum, the blue linked article should explain the usage. older ≠ wiser 04:15, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

   Not sure if what i found on the Dab page is what o/w reacted to, or reflects changes their comment elicited. I removed some detail, focusing IMO more on helping user recognize which article will respond to an interest that plausibly would have led them to look here for more info on it.

In that case the name of this page should be changed to hydro (disambiguation). This way a page can be set up to talk about this phenomonem in the Canadian lexicon. That would presume the Canadian usage is the primary topic, which is unlikely. Of course you can explore that possibility by proposing the move via WP:Requested moves, but I very much doubt there would be much support. older ≠ wiser 05:19, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Hydro → Hydro (disambiguation) — "Hydro (disambiguation)" should be the page to describe what hydro may refer to. The term "Hydro", in Canada in particular, refers to electricity produced in general from any source, as per this section of the Hydroelectricity page. I cannot start working a page for the word and its usage in Canada until the disambiguation page is at its proper location. There are numerous references available on this topic. • Oppose. I would disagree that "hydroelectricty" is the primary meaning of the word; indeed, I personally would consider a "Hydro" to be a Spa hotel, which isn't even mentioned on the page as it stands. • It sounds like what you are working on is a dictionary entry.
