Instrumental break

edit

In this article, it says: "The song's instrumental break is based on the guitar riff in the Jimi Hendrix song 'Third Stone from the Sun'"

In the Right Said Fred article, is says: "The song's instrumental break is based on the chorus of the 1974 instrumental hit 'Dance With The Devil' by Cozy Powell."

Which is it? -- MatheoDJ 05:03, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Are You Experienced? came out in 1967. "Dance with the Devil" was released in 1974. And from various internet sites, it looks like Powell yanked the guitar riff for his song. So even if Right Said Fred used "Dance with the Devil" directly, he was indirectly using "Third Stone From the Sun." Agerard 18:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

What citation is needed for the basis of the instumental break? Listening to 'Third Stone...' one can hear it is the same. --84.51.154.120 23:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since they didn't use third-party recording, but played the riff themselves, technically it is not a sample but a quote. If, for example, the composition and recording copyright were held by different parties, RSF would have had an issue with the holder of the composition copyright, and the holder of the recording copyright for the Hendrix version would be completely irrelevant. Hence I changed the word "sampled" in the article to "quoted. 24.17.178.36 (talk) 17:20, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Disco-dancing

edit

In regard to the quotes from the song near the end (the things he's too sexy for): I've seen the lines about "your party" often quoted, here as well, as "I'm too sexy for your party, the way I'm disco-dancing", but I keep hearing "I'm too sexy for your party, no way I'm disco-dancing!" This site http://www.amiright.com/misheard/song/imtoosexy.shtml (end of page) gives "no way" as the correct form. I'm going to edit the quote to that; if you're certain the previous form was correct please change it back. Shadowcrow 21:51, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've always heard it as "no way", so I agree- mostly I just wanted to say that the "things I'm too sexy for" section is oddly hilarious to me :PHimynameishelen (talk) 14:12, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Someone is my hero

edit

I have a new hero, and it's the author of this gem: "The song's lyrics express confidence that his personal level of sexiness makes him too sexy for numerous things, most notably his shirt." For that matter, this entire article is hysterical, and I would like to express my appreciation to everyone involved. This is my new favorite non-vandalized instance of Wikipedia comedy. I quite like 'The chew sweet Fruittella used a variation on the songs lyrics for a series of adverts in 1992 where a young child claims he is "too fruity" or "too juicy" for things as opposed to being too attractive'. Cloak' 17:51, 15 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Low-importance:Just a cute fashion-related song that was a big hit, really. Daniel Case 16:49, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The domain name blender.com seems to have been taken over by a company that markets blenders. What a surprise. So that link no longer works. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:43, 25 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Date of release

This source says 15 July 1991. Is this a WP:RS? What about this one, or this one? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:37, 25 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
