This page was requested, and I've added it. I've not got more time to work on it today, but I'm going to read the full text of the license tomorrow, and see what I can get outta it. And the usual disclaimer - IANAL ;) --Vidarlo 00:22, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Some things to clarify in the second paragraph are:

1. What liability does it place on distributors? (and/or where does the GPL places these liabilities?)
2. Can you find a more objective way to say "to faciliate comercial use of programs,"? The GPL has been in commercial use since 1988 and has facilitated billion euro companies including IBM
3. How does it have a clearer definition of who is responsible? Responsible for what? And are there actually any known problems in the GPL about lack of definition for who is responsible?

Compatibility with GPLv3?

This article does not specify the version of the GPL license that it is incompatible with. The GPL has recently been released in version 3. Does the incompatibility still apply? Tommy 23:21, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I changed it back, because the field is called "GPL compatible", not "GPL (version 2) compatible". The difference will need to be addressed in the article text. RossPatterson (talk) 02:11, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Patent licenses?

The FSF page at http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html says that the choice of law clause is what makes the IPL incompatible with the GPL, not the patent requirements. In the IBM Publice License v 1.0, section 2.b states that "The patent license shall not apply to any other combinations which include the Contribution." which would seem to make the patent requirements void for GPL compatibility purposes. 24.3.20.5 (talk) 20:00, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
