Talk:IMI Systems

editThe IMI did not changed its name to IWI. Only the small arms division was sold to private owners, which he called the IWI. The IMI still exists as government owned company. IWI manufactures only small arms. MathKnight Gothic Israeli Jew 16:50, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Israel Military Industries → IMI Systems – Should the article be moved to IMI Systems to reflect the current name ? 182.130.212.233 (talk) 00:25, 30 March 2017 (UTC) El_C 00:09, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- I think it's better to denote it in the lead sentence and leave the article title as the full name rather than the abbreviation. El_C 23:33, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- But its full name is IMI Systems now. They renamed as IMI Systems from Israel Military Industries last year. 182.130.212.233 (talk) 00:55, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- True, but it's more well known in English as Israel Military Industries (that's what the abbreviation IMI still means). But I have no strong opinion on it, to be honest. El_C 00:03, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- Although IMI stand for Israel Military Industries, the full name is IMI Systems now, and Israel Military Industries is the past. 182.130.212.233 (talk) 09:30, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

- The initials IMI have many meanings. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 12:03, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- Articles should be have the common name, even if that isn't the latest or most precisely correct name, I believe that El C is correct that the current "Israel Military Industries" is the most common and recognizable name for the company. Felsic2 (talk) 14:39, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

History
editIt would be good to have some history of IMI; who founded it, and where, and how did it grow. Noel (talk) 21:49, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- The Pledge, by Leonard Slater, gives bits of the origin. This page gives a bit more of the story: "In 1933, what would become Israeli Military Industries was formed. ... Slavin became General Manager of Ta’as in 1937. ... Haim Slavin reading his newspaper in a Tel Aviv café in 1945. Whole American munitions factories were on sale. As General Manager of Ta’as, he wrote his friend, David Ben-Gurion" and more here: "Haim Slavin retired from Ta’as and kept on engineering. ... Yisrael Galili became known as the ‘Father of the Rifle’ in reference to the Galil rifle designed by himself and Yaacov Lior." Noel (talk) 02:04, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
two unsourced sections
editTwo big sections for some reason doesn't have any reliable sources. I didn't remove them but put a tag upon one of them. JørgenFjelde (talk) 12:17, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
