New phone release
editPerhaps we could change this page to describe the brand new iPhone that is being released today?
Also the title is spelt wrong. It's 'iPhone', not 'IPhone'. Hockeycatcat (talk) 07:19, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hockeycatcat, I've filed a request at WP:RPP, and about the IPhone, that's Wikipedia's software, it has to be like that. I've also created iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro. Thanks, Thanoscar21talk, contribs 16:14, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hockeycatcat, done. Abobeck11 (talk) 04:07, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

Merger proposal

I propose to merge iPhone 12 mini into iPhone 12. Following the format of articles on variants of previous iPhone models, this article should be merged into iPhone 12. It's essentially the same exact phone, but smaller. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 19:26, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Comment I agree, I just removed iPhone mini from this article for now because the page iPhone 12 mini still exists. Abobeck11 (talk) 19:32, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Comment I have no opinion, but please DO NOT merge iPhone 12 Pro into this article. Please read Talk:iPhone 11/Archive 1 for information. Georgia guy (talk) 19:34, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support, per the precedent of previous iPhone models. Size isn't enough to warrant a new article when the features and hardware are nearly completely the same. Herbfur (talk) 19:35, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support, they said in the event that they are virtually the same other than size (and price). Also, on the official website, they are both on the iPhone 12 page, as opposed to having their individual product pages. Thanks, EDG 543 (talk) 20:08, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support per prior precedence. --17jiangz1 (talk) 20:14, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Comment: Readded above as it was presumably accidentally removed Herbfur (talk) 20:19, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support Most Major difference appears to be FCC qualification date. bgix (talk) 20:27, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Support per above. The Pro models deserve a separate article, but this was specifically announced as being effectively the same phone in a smaller body. —mountainhead / ? 21:53, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support Per above. Goose(Talk!) 22:10, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Comment I agree, I'd keep the 12/12 mini on one page and 12pro/max on another page. That's the way Apple has it on it's comparison page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakeknisely (talk • contribs) 22:14, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support It’s just a smaller version of the iPhone 12. --Morten Haan 🥐 talk • skin draft 23:16, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Merger proposal
editThe following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Following the merger discussion at Talk:iPhone 12 Pro (which has received a majority support), the only major difference between these two phones is the Telephoto on the Pro, followed by some minor differences such as extra RAM and a Stainless Steel frame on the Pro, as opposed to the Aluminium frame on the 12, and Dolby Vision recording at 60fps as opposed to 30fps. If the 12 Pro Max (which is a bigger jump over the 12 Pro, than the 12 Pro is over the 12) is getting merged into the 12 Pro, then 12 Pro should be merged into the 12. (Note: The 12 starts at 64GB storage while the 12 Pro starts at 128GB, but the 12 also comes with a 128GB storage option.) The Incognito Guy (Browsing privately) 07:00, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- Disagree, there's precedent with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro being separate articles. I disagree with the 12 Pro Max being a bigger jump than the 12 to 12 Pro. The reason there's separate articles is because Apple markets them differently. Additionally, the camera sensors themselves are larger on the Pro. Even though the 12 and 12 Pro are the same sizes, the Pro version weighs 14% more. Thanks, Thanoscar21talkcontribs 14:04, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Note: see Talk:iPhone 11/Archive 1#Merger proposal. Thanoscar21talkcontribs 14:06, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Thanoscar21: Actually, the sensors are bigger on the Pro Max, not the Pro. The 12 and 12 Pro have essentially the same cameras. The Incognito Guy (Browsing privately) 15:58, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- The Incognito Guy, true, but now we're starting to descend into WP:FORUM. Thanoscar21talkcontribs 16:43, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

- @Thanoscar21: What I'm trying to say is, the only real valid point you made is that its marketed differently. The weight thing isn't really a big difference at all. Also, I fail to see why you don't think the Pro Max is a bigger upgrade over the Pro, then the Pro is over the 12. The Pro Max has the larger sensors, better stabilization, further zoom, higher-res screen, bigger battery and bigger speakers. It is clearly the bigger upgrade. The Incognito Guy (Browsing privately) 17:32, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Also, take the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 8 Pro, both of which are marketed differently than the OnePLus 7 and OnePlus 8, but still don't have their own articles. The Incognito Guy (Browsing privately) 02:26, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

I can't believe how it never occurred to me that no one knew that there is a small jump on the Pro Max than the Pro as the mini to the 12 Pondekuda46 (talk) 19:02, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
