More in depth?
editDoes anyone think we could add more details to this article? I know the actual documents from ISO are pricey, but it doesn't seem like this is entirely helpful. --Matejhowell 14:59, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
moved from article
editThis kind of crap doesn't belong in a WP article. Moved to the talk page until it's sorted out: Alvis (talk) 06:28, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- Nagra France markets the Mediaguard conditional access system / conditional access module -- does it use a ISO 7816 smartcard?
- did VideoCrypt use a ISO 7816 smartcard?
- does VideoGuard use a ISO 7816 smartcard?
- does Irdeto Access use a ISO 7816 smartcard?
- does Cryptoworks use a ISO 7816 smartcard?
- does EuroCrypt use a ISO 7816 smartcard?
ISO vs ISO/IEC
editThis page should be moved/renamed to "ISO/IEC 7816", because that's the standard's designation. (source: ISO's catalog) Mitch Ames (talk) 11:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Broken Link for APDU commands
editThe link referencing the APDU commands appears to link to a blank template on a russian site. Should it be removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.226.224.10 (talk) 16:43, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
Entirely useless
editThis article contains no information about its subject, except for the category "Revision history of the standards". Information is not subject to copyright. An article about this subject should say what the published standards were.209.86.76.137 (talk) 03:30, 16 January 2015 (UTC)
Voltages in table
edit
I think that the voltage/volt symbol used in the column "Pin Description" (cells Pin1 - VCC - +5v or 3.3v DC and Pin6 - VPP - +21v DC [Programming], or NC) table should be Latin Capital Letter V (or V DC or VDC for direct current).

Please add some rationale here before rolling back. Please explain how the article could be improved.
This article relies too much on references to primary sources
editIn fact, the current 16 references all point to iso.org. Considering that the article is a summary of a specific ISO publication, I don't see how this could be avoided.
This article may contain excessive or improper use of non-free material
editIndeed, ISO standards are non-free. There's nothing we can do about that.
- Hi Ale2006, as per WP:PSTS, "secondary or tertiary sources are needed to establish the topic's notability". If there were zero secondary sources could argue the topic shouldn't even be on Wikipedia. In practice I'm sure you could use some of the current external links as other footnotes. Regarding using non-free material, that is a potential copyright issue. Text beyond short direct quotes should be written in your own words.

Bad photo for ISO/IEC 7816-2 pinout
editThe text says that the photo identifies pin numbers and then gives a table documenting them, but the accompanying photo compares SIM heights and does not show numbers for the contacts. It's unclear why SIM cards are here at all, if not for the common pinout which the photo fails to provide. --Eliyahu S Talk 13:09, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
