Hey IndianBio, I'll be glad to take this one; sorry you've had to wait so long for a review. Comments to follow sometime today. Thanks in advance for your work! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:36, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I've had a chance to take a more detailed look. This article has many strengths, particularly the thoroughness of its research; the paragraphs on the album's history are well-fleshed out with detail. Thanks again for your work on it! But I do see some substantial concerns that will prevent the article from passing at this time.
The first concern I ran into here was copyediting; since I know you've been waiting a long time for a review, I tried to clean as much of this up myself as I could, so please double-check me to make sure I didn't accidentally introduce any errors. I also rewrote some sentences for conciseness. As a suggestion for next time, you might consider putting in a copyedit request to WP:GOCE before submitting if you're not comfortable doing these copyedits yourself.
But there's bigger concerns here, too; the language of many of the sentences appears to be exactly from the sources or a very superficial rewrite of the sources. I don't mean to suggest that anything sinister happened here, since this is an easy mistake to make and an area I sometimes struggle with myself. But per WP:PARAPHRASE, this will need to be substantially rewritten to meet copyright law and Wikipedia policy. Examples:
- "seeing her running through her insane schedule as a "celebrity supermom"" -- this is much too close to the language of the source; it should all be in quotations or you should rewrite
- "The chorus finds Madonna taking her lifelong lesson of confidently ignoring her detractors and turning it into dance anthem lyrics" -- this is also a fairly superficial rewriting of the source
- "pretty direct lyrics that seem to take aim at her ex-husband, film director Guy Ritchie." -- this sentence is almost direct from the source, "pretty direct lyrics that seem to take aim at Her Madgesty's ex-husband, film director Guy Ritchie."
A related suggestion that may help is to make sure to attribute all critical judgements in-text to specific authors/publications per WP:POV. For example, you shouldn't call the track "ballsy" in Wikipedia's voice, even in quotation marks--it should be clear whose opinion this is without clicking on the references.
So, my three suggestions before renomination:
- a thorough copyedit, perhaps from GOCE
- double-checking to avoid close paraphrasing of source material
- explicitly attributing critical judgements in-text
Thanks again for your efforts to improve all things Madonna, and I'm sorry I couldn't pass this at this time. I hope you will consider rewriting this per the above, however, and resubmitting. If you do, I'd be happy to put a note on your behalf at WT:GAN asking that you not have such a long wait next time. Cheers and all best, -- Khazar2 (talk) 13:15, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
